The Mk1 Golf Owners Club History 2022
2022 saw a return to normal business and everyone was grateful that that!
Ultimate Dubs
Ultimate Dubs was the first of the water-cooled shows on 13th March and again the Club was there with a 25 car stand and an indoor stand made up of member's cars from Michael Mathers, Richard Stringer, Dan Combes, Steve Sherliker and Sanchez Smithers.
You can see all the UD 2022 pictures here.
Elsecar
10th April saw the Elsacar At The Races show and a Club win for Best Club Display.
Stanford Hall
A cool 1st May and we were back at Stanford Hall for a standard car owners delight and Hugh Coffey and Graham Welch came away with a couple of prizes as a result of their immaculate cars.
Early Edition
Next was Early Edition on 8th May. Held at Sywell Aerodrome, Northampton. The weather was a tad warmer than the week before!
Deva Dubs and Rods
Deva Dubs and Rods called time on their shows and 2022 was the last event to be held.
Adrian Halford secured a Top 5 Water-cooled win with his red 1978 series 1 5 door.
Bristol Volksfest
Bristol Volksfest was held 10-12th June with regular clubs members travelling from as far as Scotland and Cornwall!
AG 2022
Over the weekend of 29 - 31st July we were back at the Stratford Upon Avon Racecourse for the 17th Annual Gathering. The field looks massive when it's empty!
It was business as usual with the annual meeting, Driver's Briefing and Drive Out to Bourton On The Water, a lovely village near Cheltenham.

This year the Committee experienced a bit of change. We said 'Goodbye' to Committee members Neil Butler and Lucy Crowe and we thank them for their time and effort in their respective roles.
Joining the team were Andrea Keepence in a role to assist with events such as the AGM, Amy Bird to coordinate the various regions with a view to injecting more interest in local meets, Dan Combes as Social & Marketing manager to spread our brand as far as he can, and Nick Weir who will be looking to offer a more varied merchandise selection.
We welcome them to the team.
It was discovered that there had been a technical issue relating to the numbers of Paid Members and once that had been rectified a true total of 1409 was recorded on 22/08/22 and 7 'Life Members'.
As the year closes the Forum shows us as having 1447 Paid Members and 39,224 recorded members since the Club was launched on 28th October 2004.
The Drive Out to Bourton On The Water, Cheltenham on Saturday 30th July recorded 78 Mk1 Golfs (38 hatchbacks & 40 cabriolets), 1 Caddy and 1 Porsche.
The fancy dress disco was well attended again and the bar ran out of stock!
