There was a question about it a few years ago on here. It was decided that the Mk1 Golf Caddy was NOT allowed on the Mk1 Golf owners club as it's chassis is based on the Mk1 Jetta (sedan version of the Golf).

Surely by that logic, Mk2 Sciroccos SHOULD be allowed as they are all Mk1 Golf GTI underneath…

Tbh its still a mk1 caddy.

Plus the fact its got the same front.

Its blatently included in the mk1 golf group.

And id happily accept it if it wasnt.

Plus its called a Golf Pickup, so that makes it a golf, the fact it was made at the same time also makes it pretty fair to say its blatently the same just has a back instead of seats.

We don't cover Caddys for the sum of the following reasons:

1. They are not marketed/called a Golf
2. There is a separate forum covering Caddys
3. They are produced in another factory to any making Golfs
4. They are not in the Golf parts catalogue

As last posts, t'was decided if i remember right that they were not seen as official VW GOLF MK1 cars therefore not accepted on club displays etc, but if someone has one and wants to join up then its no problem, people are people, cars are cars..
People are members on the forum, people are members of the club weather they have a MK1 golf or not, they still are accepted as members..

Just the fact that they are not a MK1 VW GOLF doesnt stop an owner of using and becoming a paid upmember of this forum…

cabbys were made in different factories aswel though?

Plus the Scirocco was built in the same factory as the Mk1 Golf Cabriolet.

I think not allowing Caddies on any club stands as a little harsh, especially when some of the Caddies I've seen are absolute show stoppers and a big draw at VW shows.

As has been said many times before, you can influence the direction of the club. Simply start a post in the "Club Business" section of the site and if there's a majority view, then we would change things. There's more of a case for Jettas to be in, I raised this but the membership didn't want them in.

In summary -

1. The website URL defines our focus succinctly - VW & GOLF & MK1
2. Caddys, Jettas and Sciroccos don't qualify because they are named differently

Also it has to be mentioned, there are other forums which cater for these cars, we're not really in competition with others so its more sensible to redirect to each other's model-specific sites for model-specific info and discussion. Having said that, where there is commonality, then obviously questions/answers posted on the forum will be appropriate and useful in general.

Historically this is untrue - check out the pics from All Types for proof!!!!

I don't see the relevance, Mk3 Escort cabs were built at Karmann and I am sure there are nice ones about at shows. Should we include them? We have to draw the line somewhere and it was a combination of the reasons stated earlier, not one in particular, that they are excluded. We want to remain focussed on the Golf as a classic car (please read http://www.vwgolfmk1.org.uk/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=12 - the Caddy is not a classic car). I am sure the Caddy forum would be best placed to organise a nice line up at a show.

Why? Do you want to propose to exclude Rabbits?

so if i had a caddy would it be welcome on the stand at major shows and owner club meets?

We'd aim to fill the stand with Mk1 Golfs, at major shows there's normally sufficient interest to generate enough people who want to put their car onto the stand, so that it would be full enough. It was allowed onto the stand at All Types as an exception, not the rule.

Its the same situation as our approach to Mk2 Golf, Polo, Passat, etc

At the annual meet, there will be a separate car park for non Mk1 Golfs. Regional meets are not organised or run by the club, so they will have their own approach to things.
