Disclaimer: I will NOT be drawn into discussions on the circular objects positioned on each corner of the vehicle.

Any person that attempts to discuss wheels in this thread will be required to buy me new suspension by way of compensation.

This is a legally binding contract, and now you've read it you can't un-read it. So there.

(Basically, I'm not telling)

wouldn't want to do any burnouts with those tyres on…would cost a fortune to replace :)

You'd have to have a mahooosive engine to even turn those wheels, let alone do a burn out! 8O

Bit of an update, still stripping the interior but after selling my interior last week to make way for some recaros to retrim, I went and got some yesterday.

Went to deepest darkest Wellingborough to collect some I won on ebay for a shade over ?50. To be blunt, the seller was a total pikey, which unfortunately reflects in the seats, and I'm not just talking about the fact that they flipping reek and were full of hot rock and fag burns.

I was a bit keen to get on with things when I picked them up yesterday so pretty much stuffed them in the car and got on with it, then when I got a proper look at them this morning, a few interesting things were discovered.

Anyway, they looked like this when I got them out of the car this morning.

Not too bad I hear you cry.. well, the outer bolsters on both seats are shot, as is the side bolster on the drivers seat. I decided than rather than sit on them for a while before attempting the retrim that I'd just start pulling the drivers seat to bits to see what I found, which is where the fun began. No pics of this process unfortunately but I found, in order, the following:

1) No diaphragm under the base, just mouldy plywood. Mmm comfy.

2) Seat didn't hinge forward when the lever lifted, previous owner had cut the cables. There doesn't seem to be a way to replace the cables without cutting the seats up. Thanks Barry.

3) One of the hinges is seized up.

4) Two small cracks in the metal of the seat back where the headrest attaches.

5) Medium size crack lower down the seat back, causing flexing in the bolsters.

6) My favourite - the seats were from an Escort (hereafter referred to as Scrote) so had Scrote subframes, fair enough I knew this already. But underneath the subframes was a lot of really shonky welding (like, worse than mine and I've only been at it for 5 minutes) including a couple of nails that had been welded into the mix.

It looks like the seats were side-mount items and some gimp has welded bottom-mount frames onto them, and they haven't done it very well. The scrote subframes were attached afterwards.

So now things look like this:

They'll be coming to welding class with me next week to get some much needed attention and a good tidy up, and it's all fixable so I'm not really that peed off, just means there's added stuff needed on top of the retrim to get them tip top, at a substantial enough expense :(

At least they're comfy as hell and will be amazing when finished. I hope.

Cheers bud!

Have priced up bits for the recaros. ?185 :(

I think I may be staggering the purchases over a few months…

Hoping to finish stripping the inside this weekend and start prepping it & routing cables the new cables next weekend or through the week :)

Small update.

The engine is out and sold, and I've been shopping.

Spent last weekend driving around to meet some very nice people to pick up parts, went up to Oxford to pick up a cylinder head from mkoneman and his stupidly pimp driveway (decked Audi S8 anyone?), then to Aylesbury to get some interior bits from the amazingly generous funk-star, then to Duxford on Sunday to pick up a block from abfmk1 in his project-tastic garden :)

No pic of the block but basically, it's a minter. No wear, impeccably stored. Just needs a good clean. The head needs a clean up too, may polish it up while I'm at it as there's some marks down inlet tracts 1&2. Hopefully should be pulling all of this together over the next few weeks. I need to get in touch with Piper, Jetex, Hottuning and VW first though :)

Oh, and I got some new binoculars, but they're a bit weird and I don't think they're working. I can't see much through them…

That's all for now :)
