how many s1's?

My guess would be 30 GTis in the UK either standard or light mods of which around 20 are in an MOT-able condition.

Non-GTi numbers a bit more difficult to assess as a smaller proportion appear on the net or at shows. I reckon there must be around 150 in the UK in varying condition and modifications.

The register numbers for the S1 are a bit mis-leading as there are a lot of cars registered as S1s which must be S2s from the registration where people have mistakenly thought S1=Mk1, S2=Mk2. I must tidy it up!

what year did s1's stop being s1's and become s2?

Last run out yesterday at Carlisle VW meet, takening it off the road for the winter next step is engine bay and and engine conversion. I know its not totally original, but I like it.

Ive got one  

i have a s1 but some savage replaced the rear pannel with a s2 and the dash but was a 1.1 1976 but now got a 1.6gti in it.

i would like to make it orginal again but too much cost and too little money.

it was also a light green colour which apparently would have been only 1 of 3 left in the country .
