Do you always stone chip that far up on outer panels?
And, how did you go about repairing the corner of that door?! Looks a difficult one. :dontknow:
Thanking you!

Couple of questions for you Tim mate…

Well as for the stone chip, most front panels have already been stone chipped so i always redo it as theres always rusty bits and patches of it missing as it gets a lot of punishment on the roads and as for the rear panel i personally think its a bit silly putting new steel in and not covering it as the back panel is a weak point in a Mk1,i`v had them in with holes big enough to put your hand through because of no rear sealer so i always recommend doing it to my customers you see.Once the bumper and lights etc are back on you cant notice it that much anyway.
Obviously if they dont want it done thats up to them but its a personal preferance.
The corner of the door was a bit of a tricky one but basically we completely cut the end of it off and made a new section ,simple as that really,i will need to give it a skim of filler once its fully welded up but thats better than having rust still in the door

I am about to tackle the rear panel also. I bought the lower rear panel and was going to fit that, but my number plate light mounting holes are goosed with rust also, so I was thinking about fitting the whole rear panel. How was it to fit?

Hi there Macca, yes i would advise fitting the whole rear panel instead of just the lower section as you`l get less distortion when welding it in.Macca said

I find it an easy repair to be honest, you just drill out all the spot welds and the old panel comes away fairly easily ,sometimes with a little persuasion though lol

Give all the exposed steel a good clean off with a wire wheel and then weld proof primer..

and hey presto, ready for new panel!
