Orange mk1, update 5/4 quarry pics

well its been ages since anything has been posted up on here about my car, ive been a busy beaver, thought id finally show some pictures as its finally peicing together how it started…. Then sanding down commenced, panels replaced include inner and outer rear arches, offside wing, 2 new doors and a bonnet there was also a small patch of welding on other lip of wing as it was a good condition genuine panel and only rust suffered was from the arch spats i have also had the areial hole smoothed to prevent rust, keep it lookign smooth, had it de-wipered on the rear, but kept the rear decals once panels had been replaced it began being rubbed down… then got its coats of primer and blocking …. finished paint photos….looks very weird in this light like a pooey peach, but u get the idea of the shine! arriving back home… then started all the work…gna be a pretty extensive restoration, original budget something near a grand and gone to a few grand, lots of money to spend on a 1.3 but im only 18 and it can be blessed with a bigger engine later on in its life, id reather drive a nice mint one with all the goodies than a fast ratty one… Spec will be as follows: BRAKES-g60 servo, passat master cylinder, quattro brakes and vented discs with goodridge hoses all round SUSPENSION- full 40mm spax kit,(still need to be able to get around country roads)and the addition of ARB's with polybushes ENGINE- Stayign standard, changed all ignition, filters and battery, but that's enough for now INTERIOR - red stripe gti STYLING - Being the magpie that i am, i cant help but like a few shiny bits, especially on a colour like this, so it will soon be adorning: -chrome bumpers -chrome side strips -chrome boot strips -chrome door bowls -polished p slots -chrome single lamp grill with chrome vw badge *bling* -lower side trim removed and smoothed as i think it looks messy -small quarter arch spats on the rear Want it to look like a nice old school simple golf, retianing its fairly standard basic model sort of looks, sort of a 70's look small light styling on a less rotten golf if you will… thought it would be more wise to spend the money now on getting everythign done properly, new bolts and screws and nuts on pretty much everything, all taken off and sanded, primed repainted, cleaned up etc… all carpets taken up, jetwashed, new sound deadening put in place, cleaned up all interior, now all refitted, pictures soon…. pictures of the progress… my favourite shot at the moment…. still waiting on lots of stuff from germany like boot seal, chrome bumpers and brackets/strips/endcaps etc, small chin spoiler, rear badges, also waiting on my chrome strips, as the ones on it at the moment, used to be black gti strips, i paint stripped off the vinyl and used really fine sandpaper to make it shiny, then waxed it to protect finish, but in comparison to all the other blinigng chrome it wont look right, but u live and learn…. shot of my p-slots, got these for 150 quid, set of 5, spare not polished but with all good tread decent yoko tyres, good buy in my opinion, i was ashamed to have a car sitting on hockenheims on my drive….coincidentally if anyone wants to buy those hockenheims…pm me! shot of my brake setup…nto finshed yet and poor picture but ah well… will take som more photos soon of the weekend/holidays work, ive been busy getting the grinder and drill with wire wheel attachments, cleaning up the driveshafts, struts, sterring arms, rear beam, drums etc all cleaned and painted up… pressure washign tomorrow ready to waxoyl the lot… now i jsut have to put all the electrics back together in the right order, hope it starts, finish off the brakes ?(unseize rear drums, renovate and bleed) fit new cv gaitors, and then just small cosmetic (mainly chrome bits) sort of jobs…ooh and turning down the sensitivity of my alarm….beginning to annoy me, and my neighbours!

That looks amazing. Very well done and keep up the good work. What made you choose that colour? I have to say it's a brave choice and will look amazing with all the chrome.

I can't wait to see it finished.

took me absolutely aaaaages to pick a colour, i was gna have it black for ages, and was basically gna look like a campaign gti…with som nice alloys, but more and more wanted somethign a little different, so thought maybe sky blue colour, then dark green, then maroon, and finally chose orange, sort of colour u noyl see on swallowtails and small lights…

just wanted to be different i suppose, nice and sunny colour!

I'm not a big fan of black cars. I think the choice you made was a good one.

well i think black hides the shape…as smart as it can look, u hear ppl say ''ooh i dnt normally like that car but id have it in black….''
thats because it can cover up its shape, so bright colours are good on a mk1 in my opinion, darker colours probably look smarter, but it stands out more in a brighter colour…
my 2 pence anyway….im chuffed to bits with the colour

look what i got today for the added retro feel….

set of VAG flag mirrors, wanted a set to finish it off, but didnt fancy spending 50 quid…

3 quid from the breakers, not bad if you ask me, cleaned them up and painted the metal in primer then satin hammerite on the bottom…ended up like this…

not bad for 3 quid….more pics will be taken in daylight tomorrow hopefully!

i think/…..2 coats of primer, unsure, but it had 4 coats of paint, cos the paint was quite translucent…

hoping to have it done at the beginning of february…the project is really dragging, its getting a bit past my expertise, so is off to the garage very soon, didnt get any pictures this weekend, was raining too much, so didnt do much work on it either!!

thanks for the interest

ok so i thought id post up a bit more progress, things are fairly slow and pics are few and far between, both due to rain, but i have been braving it as best i can!

taking old 'clevis pin?' off the back of the old servo…note the master tool…blowtorch,

Then took this fork, cleaned up my servo with wire wheel on grinder, and loads of coats of Satin Black hammerite, so it doesnt go crusty in a hurry again, and then my new G60 master cylinder from GSF

Then had the beautiful job of waxoyling the underside in the rain, im layign this on real heavy so i wont be doing it again in a hurry, not much point wearing gloves either, cos this happens…

Horrible job but ive got to do it at some point, may as well be in the dark, in the rain, on a wet gravel drive in january, as its ideal conditions….

THE BEST PART BY FAR…..

guessed what it is….if not , hers a sneaky preview…more pics soon…
