Ouch! What happened to that? - I hope that there was no one in the front passenger seat at the time…

Sad looking mk1
Tried for about 4 months to find the owner, but to no avail!!
I hadnt been to see it for a while, so one night I decided to drive down to see it, in the hope to find the owner again? but hen I saw it someone had taken the wheels and doors and it had a council removal sticker on it,
The interior was in pretty good nick so I whipped it out before it got crushed, lucky I did because the next day it was gone
Shame it had such a good body, another decent Mk1 Gti gone to the vw heaven in the sky

Ouch 8O - would not have wanted to be in that one at the time, judging by the steering wheel & dash.
Nice all-red rear lights though - was that a Channel Islands registration?

the crash hit me hard and sent me into a coma for 3-4 weeks.
im just starting to chat a bit more about it since iv been getting involved with 'Headway" a head injury charity thats recently starting up over here (been on the mainland since 1979)
like i say on caddy.com, its really refreshing to find someone that 'understands'
how do you recognise the plate?

Oh blimey, it was you in the car… glad to hear that you're better now, but it must have been a scary time for your family while you were "away". At least you're around to tell the tale.
The plate: I just know my plates (bit of an anorak in that area  ) - would love to visit someday, to see the sights, but especially to see some lovely, low-mileage classics!

What happened was my father used to frequent the local scrappy and one saturday morning just as the gates were being shut, along comes this guy with a sad and abused looking mk1 in yellow in tow.
His intention was to scrap the aforementioned little golf and collect his blood money. :x
My father was just leaving the scrappy as this guy turned up, but luckily he couldnt get in to do the dastardly deed.
The little golf was saved for the pricely sum of ?25 and towed home for us to have a look at.
At the time we got our hands on it, it had no seats, no carpets, rust was a foregone conclusion and was prolific and it had a pond or two in the footwells. I half expected to see a gaggle of ducks swanning around in there.

And it got it too.

Makes me sad when i see so many unwanted, unappreciated vehicles like that, that could actually be made into really nice clean and loved cars for someone else.
At least i did my part for dubdom and saved one of them from the jaws of death.

I love my golfy!
