Hi Chef, its looking good mate, I can't wait to see the finished result!

I picked up a poorly Mk1 GTI last year which is in the same pre-restoration condtion as yours, its been parked at work for a while and not run for over 5 years, so I am hoping to get it running soon before I start the resto!

Did you have any rust around the sunroof? if you did how did you treat it? this is the worst problem for my shell and was thinking of grinding off, using rust treatment and lead filling for a proper job or even cutting out the rust and welding a new peice of steel .

Hi, The main reason I went and bought it was the pristine sunroof. So I did not have that worry.
I do treat the drainage channels with a little waxoyle and checked they are clear too..

Looks like there doin a good job with the prep

It does look a bit like flame pattern drag car paint…
The wings are now stone chipped and the bonnet underside is being prepped as well as a little bit on the roof..

Thanks, but I am only taking pics so far I have a guy doing the prep as I did not want to mess it up..I am redoing interior and engine work when its back though...

don't blame you getting a pro to do it! I was impressed with how mine turned out but if it's not perfect I end up moaning about this and that!

fortuanately got an ex F*rd sprayer prepping my car once I've sorted a few bits out

Personally i think 2k is way to much money as you have done so much of the prep already,here is one me my friend Ian did last summer for ?1400 including delivery which also  included the inside of the doors and rear armrest area.

hi. Im paying ?1200. 2k was with the first firm. The chaps I am using restored a crew cab belonging to a freind and after seeing 500 photos of the prep work to finish I had to get it done by them as there attention to detail is outstanding. the only wat to really know that is to see the vehicle in the metal which I did and its just like new. So I expect great things.

Me neither, I am busy cleaning up the interior etc ready for the refit at the moment. They say 3 weeks and itll be ready to put back together..

where are the guys that your going to use for paint job based?

In Worcester by the station.. They phoned me today to say its had some base coat already.. so expect new pics as soon as I get down there  :wink:

well its all coming on now after several layers of primer it now has several coats of blue "undercoat".. I actually like the colour…very BMW..
The stone chip has been done too now the interior and front are next..
