Anyone had a similar car respayed in the same manner? If so what did you pay? I dont want to do the prep so its as is on the final pic. How much was your paint and materials? Thanks

2k seems alot of money just for a rub down and respray considering youve done a lot of the major prep work ie welding and skimming with filler...

Every body is friendy again now , my pennies worth is that ?2000 buys you a mint 2 pack respray in every respect . More than the cars worth ?But if you then had a mint car it would be worth it . I painted mine myself and spent ?370 in materials

Cheers……….

Thanks guys, I thought about the end result and yes as they say the car will owe me more than its worth on paper but I want a mint Helious blue campaign so much Ive had mint silver ones and it been the goal to get the rare one (dont mention atlas grey  )
I was told they use water based paint and cellulose laquer so its not two pack which is a bit much. A friend (the one with the trailer) tells me he knows a chap who did his crew cab for 1600 all in inc welding so a grand should be more like it for the golf….

It will be worth it if the car is for you for keeps and not as a short term money earner. If you plan to keep indefinately then I think cost is almost irrelevant.

At the end of the day you'll have a cracking, clean car for a few grand - beats ?20k for a MK5 Gti all day long!

Very true, She is for keeping at this moment. I am looking to sell my BBS splits to help fund it too…
I am moving the old girl tomorrow to the guy who did the crew cab he is apparently fair and good and uses two pack paint. also its likely to be for cash so I should save a bit…. Again watch this space :D

well its a funny world, Tim came up trumps, his man is doing the lot for ?1200 Glass out and refitting all exterior trim. I need to source my door handles and find my stickers but I am happy. I will bring new photos as I get them but first questions..
1. When replacing the front screen am I right in thinking that there is a inner seal that must be changed?
2. did helious blue gtis have the black around the tailgate? mine is without and so are a couple others I have seen..
3. where can i get new dimple door pulls from
4. under bonnet stickers and such. Can you buy replicas?
mmm thats it for now I guess  :D

Thanks, It does look sad at the minute… The glass is due out soon and then all the panels are coming of for priming rubbing etc . So far the main work has been reshaping the new arches etc and redoing the filler ie removing most of it… The filler neck was put in with raised screws :banghead:  So they are removing the bodge done before and fitting stainless counter sunk screws to give a flat non rusting filler when the sticker goes on it will be as new.. Do you know if the Helios cars had a Black tailgate window surround ?

That's just scary! just just looking at your post wondering if there's been any updates I missed.. then you post this

what is that mustard yellow 'putty stuff' being used? high build primer?

I'm finding out as much as I can on prep work as that's where my spray job lacked, so I'm hopefully doing it again this year and want it perfect
