What is the worst car you have ever had and WHY ?

I see the  "How many cars have you had" post has been opened again thanks to quattrogal so i thought why not let us no.

  "What is the worst car you have ever had and WHY ?"



So get posting , even if it cost you a bomb to run or broke down all the time or have an interesting story to tell about it give us all a laugh and post it

Citroen BX TZD TURBO diesel estate
By far the best suspension for ride quality,
But my god what a unreliable hydraulic set up.
The engine was superb,this deserves praise,but
i spent many a night under it repairing leaking lhm pipes,and the thing got through front brake pads so quick it was frightening,
and it devalued so fast i was gutted when i sold it

1996 Polo Diesel, bought 2 years old with 20Kish miles. Ran for 3+ years and 50K+ miles. Nice ride and 50+MPG but??Failed all three MOTs I had done on it. Exhaust cracked because there is only one hanger (at rear),  rear washwipe seized, airbag light came on, suspension mounts failed, drivers seat creaked like a galleon in rough seas, VW sheared off the crank bolts whilst changing the timing belt, front spoiler came off after driving in heavy rain, door locks froze up all winter no matter how much WD40 or de-icer etc you used, rear wheel cylinders failed, gearbox noisy and then totally failed with a big bang 1 week before it was traded in for a new Clio?..  

Perhaps it was because my expectations were so high, this was the newest car that I?d owned (even smelt new inside) and I kept up the very expensive VWFSH instead of DIYing like I?d always done before but it was a BIG disappointment. Almost put me off VW altogether after @15 years of various Jettas, MK1s and MK11s.

A 1986 Ford orion 1.6 ghia (non injection)  it was hateful but the biggest engined car I could afford when I was 17, bought a MG metro after this  ops: and for all the little metros sins it was a far better car than the ford :roll:

Eighties Honda Civic - good reliable car but the carb was covered with about 30 vacuum hoses - what a nightmare!!

A Pug 406 2ltr 16v running an auto box. IT WAS SHOCKING for a newish car at the time. Wsa a P Plate and only 1 year old when I got it from work.

Fuel consumption was absimal - could only get 240 miles to a tank on a long run - the BM 323i i had after did more than that;
The gearbox got stuck in 2nd gear when I came back from working abroad so had to drive down the M4 form heathrow to Reading in 2nd - found out it would do nearly 85mph though . New box was needed;
The CD player in the boot kept busting  - ended up duck tapig the cables to the unit to fix it - saved taking it to the garage every other week !!
The sport mode ont he auto box revved less than it did in normal mode - so much for intelligent gearboxes !!
A barge went round corners better;
The brakes were like two sponges - wet ones as well;
And finally it had a HORID velour type interior which just shows how cheap it was to build.

Put me off of the 406 for life  :wink:

I hate to say it but the worst car I ever owned was a Mk1 Golf C, my second car. Didn't know much about them at the time unfortunately (I was only 19).

It suffered from:

A Rusted fuel tank
A Rust problem in general
Spinning off the road occasionally for no apparent reason (probably a dodgy new shock in hindsight)

Had a

Voracitious appetite for 'points' and 'plugs'
Needed retuning every three months

Also the

Dashboard caught fire
Rear wiper seized up twice
Sunroof jammed half closed
Never passed an MOT first time in all the time I had it

Amazing I ended up with a Mk1 GTI afterwards really!

My first car a chocolate brown Austin Allegro 1.3 recommended by my brother-in-law who is still alive 8O .
Driveshaft snapped the 1st week, brakes ceased, head gasket blew, water pump broke, alternator and battery failed. all this was in the first few months.
I kept the car for about 8 months until I part ex it for a Opel Ascona 8) When I drove the car to the garage the gears were stuck in 2nd with no tickover and the brakes wasn't working. The car dealers phoned me up and asked me how I got the car there because they had to tow it away ops:

the worst car we ever had was a vauxhall sintra mpv,i learned to drive in it,we only had it 11 months and was in the garage 12 times with electrical glitches.we just got rid of it when top gear dumped a load of pigsh!t on it.

second i would have to say was my Alfa 147 ( i did love that car and still miss it)had a new engine at 11k , no courtesy car and when i complained about travelling 60 miles to the dealership for yet another fault the dealer simply said "you knew where we were when you bought it.


and thens theres the s2 which features in my top breakdown story ever,
when we moved to scotland i was travelling across the A66 and got a puncture just outside the Warcop base , 9 pm it was raining i didnt have a coat   and they little army men were on night manouveres shooting their guns
I got the wheel off no problem , however when i got the spare out i knew something was wrong ,a quick count of the holes in the spare and hub told be I had not enuf holes on the wheel so was not going to fit, well the air was extremely blue , i can just about see the funny side now , I had to join the rac and eventually got home at 3 am

Well the worst car I ever owned was actually a van! It was a vauxhall midi 2.4 diesel. I bought it off my friend John for ?500….An absolute steal, or so I thought! I don't know if any of you are familiar with the engine position in these vans, but it is in the middle of the cab under the middle seat! I'm sure it's a great design, however it isn't if the head gasket goes, blows the top off the radiator and poaches you whilst in the outside lane of the motorway!…..Sorry if I killed anyone getting to the hard shoulder, I couldn't see a thing!  8O

well ive only had 2 cars and one them i never got to drive as i hadnt passed my test and it wasnt road worthy !!  that was an A reg mini mayfair in metalic blue, we put in a new engine added all the chrome etc ! she would have been a nice car but never got off the starting block really !!  in the end i knew i would never be able to spend the time or money on her so sold her for a pitifull ?20 just to get shot of her !!!!  ……. oh well we live and learn.

Ah yes…Tiddly winks!…..Back in the good old days, when the sky was always blue, I had pecks, all my own teeth, no grey hair……It's just not the sa a a a aaame pla a ayin ng it a a all on your o o own! Boo hoo!  :cry:

Mine was probably my first car. As a naive 18yr old I borrowed ?1.5K and headed off down the auctions intent on getting something with a bit of grunt after being brought up with my Dads VW Beetle. I spotted an Opel Ascona 2.0DL (Deluxe !!) amongst the rows of bargains and was determined to win it. It looked the business, bright and shiny blue with freshly painted Rostyle wheels. Looking back now it was obviously tarted up to sell but I was smitten.


 
Bidding was frantic, no doubt accelerated by the sellers bids too.
 
Anyway the hammer fell and it was mine.  What a bad purchase it proved to be. I think I paid just over a grand for it and it spent much of the next 6 months at the garage.

It sufferred from:

• A worn head and camshaft
  Knackered Carb
  Noisy/knackered differential (that meant endless traction problems)
  Faulty electrics that caused all rear lights to illuminate under braking
  Leaking rear windscreen
  Too much catty in doors and wings
  Excessive fuel consumption
  Frequent cutting out[/list:u]
  
  I'm sure there were more problems too. I lost a shed load of money and in the end I bought a 76 Golf LS for ?300 (all I had left, having put the Ascona back through the auction) that a mate had been lending me whilst mine was in the garage. It gave me good service in the short time I owned it but I had to scrap it when the trailing arm broke away from the crusty bodywork. However that little car started a love affair that's lasted 20yrs now.

  What a machine , these were bought out to replace the Strada in about 1988/89 and guess who needed a cheap larger family car ? Warranty was for 1 year and we bought it when it was 18 months old mmmmmm warranty had run out .

Fuel guage never worked properly [long story] . We bought a sticky pad for the dash in the end and had to record milage and fuel at every fill up . So we never ran out .
Went through 3 sets of front end struts in as many years and at the time only Fiat sold/made them so they were dam expensive . Fuel consumption was always poor , it ate tyres wearing bits where ever it felt like it . The heater control knob was always stuck on demist so your face was always hot , and the interior trim was so poor that bits had to be stuck to keep them in place .

A Porcshe 928 rammed it up the rear one dark night

RIP  FIAT      

Despite dropping to bits around you and guzzling fuel , the engine was very reliable and the rear "fibreglass hatch" never rusted

Yes i have heard that Polo's "made in Spain" were very poor .
A friend has one and is devestated how poor it is  8O
