DIY Fuel pressure test gauge
How to....
Runs well although idle seems to vary somewhat between 1100 (which it was before) and sometimes 1300-1500).
But overall so happy she starts and runs. Thinking now fuelling seems sorted of getting her on a rolling road for a proper tune up. Worth it?

1. If you look on page 1 of this thread you'll see a parts list for building a pressure gauge. I would lend you mine but unfortunately I'm all the way down in Devon. Maybe one of the SW chapter members has one closer to you? richyhill runs it so could maybe help?
2. I'm no expert but it you ran your car dry and hence your fuel pump, you may have knackered it as running pumps dry is a bad idea.
3. You could test it by disconnecting the fuel feed pipe on the inlet side of the fuel filter in the bay, and then turning on the ignition (not the engine). You should hear the fuel pump and get some fuel coming out the feed pipe.
4. If you pump is very noisy, it could be dying. Mine was. Although it still worked, it wasn't supplying enough fuel to let the car run properly.
Hopefully that points you in the right direction…
