Hi. yeah, I bet ! Ours had been stood 10 years before we bought it so we didn't see it !   Perhaps I wasn't clear about the Insurance, It was renewal time on the 1st November, so I rang and told them I wasn't renewing until next year. They were fine with that. I am with Lancaster though.

Just disconnect the battery. A good battery will last a winter without charge / discharge cycles. I also don't believe in starting the car at all during its lay up as all you do is create condensation in the exhaust system which will rot it out. An engine in good order will start come spring. If it doesn't then it had imminent problems anyway.

I'm with Yomp on the battery, I just remove the earth cable on my battery and it's been fine for the last 4 winters of doing this and I have not needed to charge the battery.
