My 1983 Golf CL AFH conversion

Actually is got twice as much green as it does silver. But it's a pearl color so it doesn't show well with cameras. Toyota 6T7 is the color code.

This is what the color should look like in the sun.

Slowly starting to put stuff on. I plan to paint the engine bay, trunk and metal you can see through the carpet, just waiting for that paint to show up. It won't be the same as the body, very dark solid green. I did get the new black trim on… at least on side is on. I have to shim the door before I do a full side shot, it's off enough to be embarrassing.





 

On the fence about wheel choice…

Yep, looks more green now.

I think the RA's at the moment.

I like the other wheels though. Perhaps a different colour?

I've been busy cleaning years of dirt, grease, and Tectyl off the bay so I can paint… Me and paint thinner are great friends now. Under the brake booster and wiring still needs to be cleaned but the entire area started out like that.



 

Cut up my hand pretty good with broken glass so been slow going lately… Should be able to pick up the pace shortly.

The rear is starting to come together. Bit of a mission getting the seal on but all in all it came out pretty good. I've never done it before so hope it stays in the car…

That engine sounds lovely.

Have to agree with Sir Borednow about the RAs - the neutral grey/silver draws attention to the green in the paint.

The headliner in these car is like a Rosette Stone… without it being done I'd be at an impasse… Having never done it I was a bit apprehensive, I did find a couple good videos online to at least give a clue how it's installed. So today I finally committed to task. The headliner bows were taken from the old piece and installed in the same positions. Once that was done I got it hung in the car and fairly centered. Judging from the old headliner bits on mine, the C pillars panels were installed first, then the main bit, then finally the A pillars. That's how I'm going to go about it.

The C pillar panels are a bit intimidating, big flat panel glued to a compound curved surface… You have to commit to gluing it on. You have to move with purpose as well, and I'd recommend you buy a couple boxes of these style paper clips. I believe they're 18mm.

Here's where I'm at now. I may put together a how-to later because there's a couple tricks I had to learn real fast.

Is it just me that ends up covered in glue the minute I even think about going anywhere near it?

Half the time I can't even get the lid off due to the amount of glue on my fingers!

It's a giant pain in my… But it's going in a touch easier than I'd predicted. I'm using the Petec brand spray glue that was recommended where I bought it.

I've got it done from the rear up to the back side of the B pillar.

Headliner and rear windows done…





Had a friend 3D print a mount for my vacuum canister so I can mount it under the rain tray.

A few more items taken care of…






 

Got a bit done today but still waiting for some wiring to show up so I can finish cleaning up the electrics…

 

Wiring complete, most of the interior in… May be going for a ride tomorrow.
