Goly, it's restoration time!!!!

Oh nice one, I'll follow you. Get pics on here too ;)

I bet you don't see a Montego in a body shop very often nowadays! Guessing it's an MG version?

It was a bog standard Montego but they have took the turbo engine out of a rotten one and fitted it to the shell you see in the pickies.

The paint on the Montego looks real good! It's a real deep shine. I've told him I want plenty of paint and lots of lacquer
I checked out MJ interiors and they look good. Just waiting for a call from a bloke in Notts before I contact anyone else. I've just managed to order some new seat foam from Mecatechnic in France so hopefully it will fit.
New radiator and water pump turned up today

It's like Christmas all over again! Yesterday I took delivery of a new radiator and water pump. Today I have received my seat base foams and seat back straw type things
The seat parts were ordered from Mecatechnic in France. Dispatched on Monday and arrived on my doorstep today! Very happy with them but it looks like one has been used/fitted in some way! I've checked it out and think it wont make much of a difference. Just need fitting and covering now

Slow progress on Goly but she is getting there.
Ive had some items zinc plated and I have a bag full of goodies for powdercoating. I have purchased some tools so that I can rebuild the engine myself  :o
The bodyshop have contacted me and asked for some descent panels to fit to the car because all of the repair sections I have are poor quality, I thought this would be the case so I have just ordered some genuine items, a complete RHS rear 1/4 and a LHS rear arch repair section from Mecatechnic, I tried ordering from Classic VW in Germany but it wouldn't accept my post code! I don't know if any of you guys have had the same issues?
Thats about it for now, I was dissapointed yesterday because I popped to the bodyshop and Goly was on the jig and I didn't take my camera  :banghead: I will get some more photos next week though

A before and after shot for you all.

Some items for powder coating. I will be waiting until I get the rear axle off the car before I send all of these to get done.

Good evening all. How are we?
I think it's going to be fair to say that Goly will NOT be attending the AGM this year! The bodyshop have been doing a great job but the parts that I have sourced for the repairs have been poor to say the least! I have just had to order more genuine parts to finish the work. I'm quite glad that the non genuine parts were pants because now I can say that my whole car is genuine VW metal, not one piece of aftermarket tin foil on the whole shell
I have a couple of piccies of the work so far and I'm sure you all want to see so I will put them up for you. If you want to see more images and follow the progress of the restoration on Instagram just follow me @ golythegolf and @ chamelionautorefinish
I can't wait to come to the AGM even if it is without my Mk1!
See you all soon.

Rear 1/4 and tub chopped away, no hidden rot

New panel and tub fitted

Goly just sitting pretty

chopped the rear panel ready for a new one.

Hello,
It's been a long time since I have put anything on my build thread and  progress is slow but it's happening.
Goly is still at the bodyshop, she is now fully welded, paint stripped and ready for underseal before a good helping of primer.
The front panel is still off to get a good covering in the engine bay and I've just picked up my rear axle so I can get it stove enameled and start rebuilding it.
Here are a few pictures to keep you going.

I'm extremely happy with how she is coming on and hopefully she will be painted before the end of May  :P

Ouch,
The $1,000,000 question so early in the morning.
Let's just say I'm hoping to get it done before you come to the AGM
I would like it finished for next summer really. I miss driving her and she has been off the road for 3 years now. Time to crack on and finish it. I can safely say I won't be doing another resto. Takes up far to much time and money. But hopefully when it's done it will last another 30+ years

Not really mate, I went to see the bodyshop yesterday. He is ready to weld on the front panel, block it all back then get spraying but he has a few more jobs on too. I want it home soon though and then the fun begins.
I am seriously bricking it about putting it all back together. Hopefully the photos I've taken and labelled bags will help.
I might be calling up some favours too from some nice people I've helped out. Haha!

Haha, I wouldn't worry mate, you'll be fine. I'm not too far down the road if I can help with anything one weekend!

Hi my old friend, glad to hear things are moving on.  :)
But when you've finished and as I've done in the past, although the car is running happily.

Do put that box of spare parts that are left over in the back just in case you need them and not always for the car but other things like the lawn mower or the tumble dryer!

That box of bits you're talking about golf Cabrio is in here somewhere!!!!
This is organised chaos, honestly!

20160907_102610.jpg

Haha!

Goly is doing well at the minute. She is sitting happy on some dollies waiting for the front panel to be welded on and the rest of the body to be blocked back.

Looking at my pile of bits I'm seriously doubting when Goly will be ready. I need to start pulling my finger out.
I have just sent some more bits for powdercoating.
The rear axle has already been done so I can start building that up now. Then I need to crack on with the engine.

Hopefully this thread will start having more regular updates soon.

Wish me luck
