Goly, it's restoration time!!!!

Good luck with the headlining, it may be worth warming it gently with a hair drier first if you think it's in any way a bit brittle - they can split so easily sometimes.

Looks like you have a 4x4 Golf now!
:lol:Your not wrong  :lol:I think the headlining will be ok to remove from what I can see it seems very soft and flexible! I've not found any stiff bits yet!  :lol:I gave the headliner a clean earlier with some warm soapy water and I think it came up rather well! Some 50/50 shots for all you OCD detailers out there

I'm very happy with how clean it has come up, there are a few yellow stains I can't seem to get rid of around the boot opening but I can live with them! After all it is 31 years old!

Thought I would let you all now what is happening at the minute, The garage that came to look at Goly and said they can do it haven't got back to me with a quote and I have now heard some horror stories about them! Taking this into consideration I popped to see a guy in a real old school garage who would love to work on my Golf. I have seen a Porsche Boxter he has just sprayed and it looked Good. He is just finishing a full respray and turbo conversion on a Montego (Don't know why  )  and then he is ready for Goly

I have also been collecting some parts ready for the rebuild. I have a pair of genuine wings, some Hella headlamps, rear lights, mirrors, and I have just bought a new engine crane, engine stand and load leveller ready for the engine strip http://vwgolfmk1.org.uk/forum/index.php?page=topicview&id=garages-and-specialists_2%2Ftailgate-gas-struts.

I just can't wait to get her back on the road

I know, could have been a disaster but I think the biggest issue would have been time, I don't think they would have had it done for next years AGM let alone Christmas! Hopefully this new place will make her look like new again! My genuine wings from VW Heritage turned up today

I have been busy collecting parts and stripping my engine ready to take it to the engine specialist to confirm it is all as it should be. Some photos so far.

New wings

New wings have a few slight dents so I've marked them up to be repaired before spraying.

Putting my engine on the engine stand using my new kit

majority of the engine is now stripped down.

I have the new bodyshop owner coming to see the car next week so hopefully he will be happy to do all of my bodywork and get the car done for me over the coming months.
Sorry for the slow progress but I didn't realise that the hardest part of a restoration would be finding a bodyshop and finding an interior trimmers that actually responds to my emails! It's like they don't want my money  :banghead:

I have been slowly stripping the engine, the head is now off and I also have a few more parts to fit!

The parts I have are some oil pressure switches, a temp sender, carb seal kit and a carb flange

I'm still waiting for the bodyshop/sprayer to get in touch! Hopefully he will be coming to see Goly soon because its supppsed to be going in for a makeover in a couple of weeks!
Thats all for now folks!

Thanks Matt, they make life so much easier.
I just wish I had bought them a few weeks earlier to help me remove the engine from the car instead of dropping it out onto the floor!

Most people want to drop the height of their car but oh no not GolyTheGolf , he drops his engine instead.
It's a bit like shutting the stable door after the engine has been 'unbolted'!

Well hello there Mike, good to have you on board old chap!
Sorry we couldn't say hi at tha AGM but maybe maybe next year I can get you that pint I promised you! As for for most people lowering their car, you just wait until you see Goly at the AGM 2015! Hopefully she will be gleaming, might still look like a 4x4 with a dented sump but she will be gleaming! And no excuses about weddings next year    !!

Sure is exciting! Well I'm a bit unsure on the time scale! They have assured me that it will all be finished for the summer, I think it might be a bit longer! I'm struggling to find an interior trimmer at the minute.
Haha! Yeah Mrs G isn't getting a Valentine's present this year!

I found that process quite stressful if I'm honest. Worry about the finish, cost blah, blah, blah!!

There is a good trimmer in Preston if you really are struggling.

It is quite stressful but up until you just said that I wasn't worried  :o   what is annoying is that I wanted Goly all sprayed up and back on my drive by the beginning of January but she only went in last week! I've been trying to find a bodyshop that wanted to do the work and that would do it to a high standard for nearly a year, they either don't get back to me or are not good enough!
If you have the contact details for that trimmer I will give them a try. I'm off to see someone in Derby tomorrow, fingers crossed he is good!
