X plate campaign edition Golf?
And my baby is free!
Opened the boot and found a nice stash of goodies including an ignition coil and some of these bad boys
Just waiting for a buyer on the mk2 GTi 16v or my sisters mk4 golf so I can get enough room in the garage to bring her home.
Tempted to sand down all the rust on the bonnet. Prime it and then vinyl wrap it as I don't have the time to respray her myself.

-Refurbished the rear badges
-Refurbished the grill stripes
-Given her a quick wax to take some of the worst of the tarnish off
Bought some mk1 p slot style pirelli stickers for the hub caps which i have spruced up with some Reflex silver paint, and a new single light debadged grill to be fitted.
Got 5 litres of 2pk Mars Red sitting here aswell, need to order my coilovers and work shall hopefully begin.
Aiming for a very subtle euro look/OEM+, don't want 8J's on 185 tyres stretched to the moon, just a nice, clean golf.

Your Gti
As pointed out previously, it is a non Campaign filler cap and yes the wheels look like the MK2 edition ones. I see you've added the Pirelli stickers, the proper centre caps were embossed rather than plain.
Looking good though in the later pictures.

The rear light cluster is a series 2 MK1 and therefore suggests it's a 1791cc, not as you thought, I'm confused about the X plate?

The larger rear lights were available on both 1.6 and 1.8 gtis from late 81,
the wheels are definatly mk2 gti but look good,id rather them than the snowflakes, they keep in with the originality of the car!

also what used to happen sometimes was if the car had a rear end bump, they would put a big light back panel on , as for the zender spoiler,i love it!!!albie said

Another day another trip to the garage, had some polish on hand so I gave the 3.0CS' bonnet a quick polish to see how it was, came out ok actually and somehow it's not rusted
Got some pics of the golf as she is at the moment too
Oh, and it appears that the paint is either original or the car had a bare metal respray in the 80s , shame that a few bits have been resprayed with dodgy paint

Nice little project mate, like the guys have already said, the 'Campaign' was just the run out model that had the trim options to essentially use up the parts.
A lot of the parts were available and fitted prior to VW launching the 'Campaign' model. I had a Y reg with all the correct spec but it wasn't a Campaign as VW hadn't started their final sales campaign by then.
From looking at the pictures you've posted that isn't a Campaign fuel cap though, it should have a plastic tab spring hinged over the lock. Also the wheel centres aren't the original Pirelli logo ones - the ones on yours are Mk2 ones.
Still it will be a very nice car, but don't get hung up on the Campaign nonsense, it's of no real importance! If yours is a good one it's worth just as much and in years to come possibly more!
Good luck with it.
a quick look suggests those are mk2 alloys as well. take the covers off and look for a number ending in a or aa. if aa they are mk2 alloys.

Yeah I had a look a while ago and they are AA mk2 p slots. Not too fussed as it means they can go on the mk2 16v my dad used to use, hopefully it'll make it a bit easier to sell as it had some hideous 90s three spokes on

Luckily it was only a bit of surface rust, didn't even bother with the grinder, my ever trust Dremel and emery sander made short work
A light skim of filler then going through with 240-600 grit sorted it, along with a bit of knifing putty (first time i've used the stuff. Went through it with 400-800 then got the Tornado red down
It's not 100% perfect but considering the paint was only a rattle can the colour has matched quite well

My new badges arrived from the states, less than a fortnight
For replicas they seem great quality and have proper fixings identical to proper VW ones, brushed aluminium GTI logo just like the standard one too, anyways i've got a spare one if anybody wants one for a decent price .
Now, badged or badgeless? Valver is going in there sooner or later so i'm swaying towards leaving it on.
