white 78' series 1 *PROJECT ANGUS* Updated 06/04/2011!!
Anyways, this is how he looks at the moment, still a few little jobs to do but hopefully going for MOT the morra!

This was after i first got it back home and give it a wash for the first time in nearly 18 months!

Then had to fit these, they were a really good deal, got both callipers and discs (brand new brembo grooved discs, just rusty when i got them) for £50! Got some new slider rubbers and give them a good clean and a lick of the same blue i used on the Teves callipers :

So i could fit these, finally after owning them for over a year and them not turning a mile!

Well thats pretty much it for now like, gonna get a few jobs down the morra, got the wiper mechanism to re-arrange, put it on wrong, luckily i tried it with strips of cardboard taped to the pins rather than the metal wipers and scratch me bonnet!
Only bad point is that with the bad weather, the filler cap surround is starting to rust a little, but that can be easily sorted. Got a new heater motor to fit as mine is goosed, drill two holes for the bottom wing bolts (no hole drilled in the newly done metal work) and i'm toying with the idea of chrome flags or not, the drivers' mirror glass has gone 'rusty', its really odd!
Will update when its all done, and i'll be putting a few things up for sale, had a clear out of the garage today after fitting the wheels! Oh, and it's roof rack fitting tomorrow too, wanna have somewhere to put me tent ready for dubfest! Provided theres no mechanical issues while running in that is!

Since the weather was so nice i decided to crack on some more today, russ came over and helped too which was a total bonus! Cheers man.
Got the brakes sort of bled today but they still hardly work, gonna go round the whole system like, back left one first and all that, get them working properly. It ran out of petrol the other week, when i was turning it round in the street, had to push it back in, it's surprisingly heavy, must be the auto 'box, that alone weighs a ton! BTW, if anyone knows something good for getting brake fluid off driveways would be a saint, made a mess of the drive next door to mine! 8O
Anyways, sorted the wipers too as they were wiping down first, not good for the freshly painted bonnet! Tried to change the heater motor cos mine is spent, without dropping the matrix and stuff, nee joy, not enough room, need to take it out anyways cos the matrix is leaking at the pipes, another day for that tho.
Spent most of the day Rubbing down and painting the boot floor cos it was minging, have no before shots but this was it after, came out pretty good, wanna take the hatch off and do a couple of bits inside the tailgate but have to get to the hinge bolts without tearing the headliner!

2 coats of ALPINEVEISS! (said in german accent) and 2 coats of clear, not the most perfect finish but good enough for something that will be under carpet! Still leaving the suspension turrets showing though.
Thats it for now, MOT is looming, watch this space
Oh, and got me roofrack today too, gonna give that a spruce up too.

Graney got the rest of the boot surround and back side of the tailgate painted so its all nice and shiney! and the bit that will please lee is we removed all the stickers from the back window…. after stepping back and looking at the car everything else was so clean they kind of let the car down and just didnt look right. got the brakes bled off although the peddle is still very spongy it stops the car alright so we had a little drive round the street only for the car to spring a leak from the auto choke

Too right does it mate, it's really beginning to feel like all the work is worth it now! Starting to get the look i always pictured. Needs dropping a bit on the front tho
thats what i gonna say.
The car looks fantastic. I got my green eyes of envy. Thats one sweet looking mk1. Series one in white. Car porn.
For me it could be with some chromage to really set it off. Full from door handles and wing mirrors?
Nice choice of wheels. not something id ever thought of putting on but they look great.
Car looks awesome.make sure u get a really good car alarm!

although the et on them means they wont go over teeves or girling brake calipers hence having to fit the gti units…. not sure where adam got the wheels from but i'm sure he'll pop in and let you know.

Cheers Lee, yeah you were right, it's only after getting to the point of the car looking pretty much fonoshed that i realised that they looked old and hagged compared to the rest of the car, so they came off, does look the part too. So glad to get behind the wheel of it now, shame about the water leak but on the grand scale of things that it a drop in the ocean!
Cheers for all the comments on my thread, it will be coming to an end soon, after nearly 2 years! 8O, but these things always take longer than expected, just not that much longer, never mind tho, the car came up pretty well and looks like the golf that i had pictured in my head all along so the extra time was worth it.
Cheers, heres a little vid from when i let russ have a drive, lee you can see the stickerless rear screen better on here! lol
