My mk1 g60 bahn brenner

Right, here goes.

I bought the car as a mk1 g60 from a guy called Shaun Kemp (travelled to Chester to get her), it was missing a lot of bits and pieces, but that is what i wanted, a full on project.

I've got hundreds of pics of the build up, but it takes so long to upload them and then choose the best ones that ive selected a few of my favorites that shows what has gone in to the build, well i think it shows the work anyway….lol

The mk1 when i got her :





I then took the plunge and got her booked in for the bodywork with a local guy who had been highly reccommended :

Here he is checking out what he has let himself in for :





usual rear arch rot :







I had him lift the arch up about 10mm, as i wanted to put 8's on the rear without having to bugger about with ballache arch mods.

new sills :

Got rid of the battery tray :











I love the mk1 with the clipper kit (I'm 28 so the 80's styling is still cool to me, ridicule me if you want, but each to there own)

For some reason it had, had a bee sting ariel put on it, that had to go :





Doors off for bringing up to scratch, dont think had been touched for a while :

There is a lot of pics i know, but bear with it, as the good pics are yet to come…

I didnt wantr just a plain engine/engine bay, so work started on the that :

Old inlet manifold:



New powder coated inlet :

I then invested in a shrick sump :



The head had been played with, i believe only stage one, but none the less, not standard. I had the bottom end re-built and the head. this was done by a mate and his dad, who do it everyday for a living. As they say its not what you know, but who you know.

The engine built up minus the charger and the old alternator used for the mo :

Billet brenner fuel rail :



Again skipping the boring bits :

offered the intercooler up :



Rear brakes (now using mk4 rear callipers) :





A bit of powder coating has gone into the build………lol

A mate who is a whizz with wiring, getting stuck in :



Battery relocated in the boot (using oddysey pc680) :





External oil cooler :



No space anywhere else in the bay, so it had to go here :

Ive been doing this for about an hour now, so im gonna do some more another day, a taster of what is to come. and my hands hurt and my eyes ache….lol

if it helps, thats the first clipper style car ive ever liked!
looks nice, normally well OTT, but looks good, not too keen on the amount of blue used on some parts but still looks smart and as long as you like it, thats all that counts mate, i think its a good example of something retro

Nice work! That's a really nice result…

One thing - do you have any cowling or guard over your oil cooler? It's really exposed down there to stones / debris on the road / speedbumps etc… and it'd be a real shame if it got a hole in.

Looks ACE! I love clipper kitted mk1's ive got a kit that im prepping to go on mine, if you dont mind asking, where did you get that VR6 front splitter from and how did you put it on the bumper? And what did you smooth the bumper with, when i mean smooth i mean what did you use to fill in the clipper number place screw holes with? What kind of filler?
I bet it goes well too!

Well done on an excellent job, what colour you done her in? Only concern would be that oil coolers location to getting holed. Maybe a heavy mesh couple of inches in front ...

was this at ultimate dubs this year?? remember looking at a blue clipper kitted one up there.

have liked the clipper kit too since seeing a blue one at inters at the trl many many years ago - so its cool with me! like it!

you say exposed but its not really, the sump is lower than the cooler so if any damage its gonna be expensive anyway, the underside of the gearbox's never really have any abrasive damage from road debris, so im not overly concerned. But i do get that moment of oh my god every now and then. plans afoot to get it safe guarded.

The bumper came without the holes, so i didnt have to get any filled. The vr splitter is acheap after market jobby off fleabay, you need to cut some 'v's into it(becomes obvious when you come to doit), and i just tie wrapped it on.(body i knwo, but if you didnt ask you would have never known).

Its a ford colour unfortunately, imperial blue.

Thanks all for the kind words, she isnt everyone's cup of tea, but i like her, and she goes very well. Mapping in august, with a few other bits to be added, she should be pushing around 200bhp, if not hopefully a little more.

If anyone knows of another mk1 for sale, rolling shell ideally then please let me know, as i have another engine at home desperate for another mk1 project. I need that fix of working on a mk1, and i dont want to take this one off the road, and the other engine is an excuse to build another mk1.
