right, heres another update even though theres not much to show in the pics, ive basicly just been stripping more parts off the car to uncover as much rust as possible befoe i get it welded and painted. ive been finding more and more rust as ive been taking bits off the car but overall im quite happy with it.

this bit is the main problem i think, im not sure whether to try and repair it and keep the heater blower and scuttle panel, or to just cut it out and weld a panel over to get rid of the blower and tray

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

removed the exhaust

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

put the teardrops on with racing slicks

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

got some bits for polishing, and some etch primer and bags to keep the nuts and bolts in order

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

heres the bags so far which ive named up etc.

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

started chipping off the sound deadning inside, think im gonna invest in a heat gun to make things easier

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

started removing the wiring loom which was a right mess

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

engine bay wiring loom and fusebox out

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

then started on the dash loom and clocks, removed the clocks and dash surround first, then unclipped all the switches and plugged them back in once removed so i didnt get mixed up

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

dash out, which was easier than i expected

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

some bits stored in the back for now, started pulling the headlined out, which i really wish i hadnt of started, it was in ok condition to start with but when i tried removing it i tore a bit and thought i might as well pull it all out after that, really not looking forward to replacing it

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

removed the last of the wires, looking nice and bare now, woohoo

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

and taped up any holes for now to stop the rain getting in, this is how its looking at the moment

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

also removed loads of other stuff along the way such as gear stick and linkage, seatbelts etc.

basiclly all ive got left to strip off now are, windows, lights, door seals and

- brake servo
- fuel filler and tank
- steering rack

not sre if it will be worth removing the above 3 things though?

I wouldn't probably move them. On the other hand you've already removed almost everything from the car so why not going all the way. But it's not that big of a deal to keep them there as they are either. :D Nice progress with the project!

removed the brake servo

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

and removed the fuel filler neck to make things easier, the neck and fuel cap surround actually arent too bad at all which im pleased about

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

and some pics of the way shes looking now

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

looks worse than it is here, its just the glue left from removing the sound deadning, main bits of rust are the drivers footwell and insides of door hinges

brad moles mk1 golf by bradmole, on Flickr

i think theres just the windows to remove now then she should be ready to get sent off for the dirty work

Good work so far.

You decided how you are going to tackle the inner front door pillars?

Post

today i removed the gearbox from the engine so i can get it on the engine stand and clean it up

mk1 progress by bradmole, on Flickr

mk1 progress by bradmole, on Flickr

also got a bit more of the engine bay and inner arches sanded, just trying to get as much of the work done as i can before it goes to to the bodyshop, ive decided im going to get rid of the heater fan and rain tray, also going to be putting the battery tray in the boot. (excuse the random paint colours, i just figured any paint was better than no paint to protect the bare metal from the weather)

mk1 progress by bradmole, on Flickr

mk1 progress by bradmole, on Flickr

mk1 progress by bradmole, on Flickr

and rested my panels in place ready to get them fitted up to make sure they all line up right when i get time

i swapped my crystal headlights for some standard hellas

and got on with cleaning some more bits

mk1 golf progress by bradmole, on Flickr

mk1 golf progress by bradmole, on Flickr
