'Unsupported', so who's up for it?

Cheers, still need to sort a few things but I'm almost there now!

Check this out - live webcams of what's going on around the See: http://worthersee.vagaddicted.com

Looks like it's already full of nice cars, so now I won't feel bad leaving before the main show starts!

I'll be in a yellow Audi S4 on 20" wheels and air (not mine)

Sooo looking forward to the 8mpg!!

Hey that's the one that when you pull into a garage to fill up, you have to switch the engine off because your burning fuel faster than the pump can put it in the tank!

Yep I've got some, I'll post them later today.

Yep take the bit of trim off and any clips that are left in the body work just push trough with something like a screw driver and a wee tap with a hammer :)
Clips turned up earlier - thank you! All back how it should be again

Seems like this has crept up on us so quickly - never thought I'd be ready in time - but I've given Klaus his last wash, pumped up the tyres, sorted my European breakdown cover, sewn the torn straps back onto the hood bag and I'm ready for an early Eurotunnel departure tomorrow!

That's great news mate!
Just take it easy, stay safe and keep your eyes open and you'll do fine.

Right, I have to go right now down to my Mechanic (who owns a Sportline) to see how he's doing with the few little jobs I asked him to do.

Then for one beer and home to kiss the Dog and kick the Wife!
Na there's something wrong they but I've got a bit of time to work out where.  O_o

Yep

Having a meal break in Köln, slightly complicated doing city driving because heat soak into the carb after the long motorway run made my idle speed rise to around 3000rpm which is a little problematic in an auto!

Seen a few obvious candidates for the 'see already - even got a wave from the slammed British 911 doing 150 down the autobahn on bright red BBS wheels :D

Hopefully the engine will be cooler by the time we get back to the car, I hate the caramel smell of burning ATF…but I'll get there no matter what!

Good for you mate, just keep at it!
I can tell you that the weather here has been dreadful and we have had wind and rain in excess of 100 mph in places.  :o
But the weather will be improving over the weekend and is looking really nice for next week.

Sunny, warm but not to hot!

Made it to Frankfurt! Found the issue, the throttle cable is sticking (end bit seemed a bit loose…Maybe it's just falling apart) and the linkage isn't returning to fully closed with pressure off the pedal. Turned out just hooking a foot under the pedal calms it down a bit so that'll do me until I get back home or someone can look at it

Frankfurt already!! Fantastic!!

Sounds like it's the throttle return spring has stretched which is why it's not fully returning. You should be able to pick one up somewhere. I just replaced mine and it fixed the problem :)

Hi there,
You should find a number of places that do MK1 parts, might be worth asking a VW Dealer but if they don't have one I'm sure their know a place that will.   :)

How's the weather and keep us posted on your progress!

There's two really good dealerships when you get there, one in Villach and one in Klagenfurt..

I've availed myself of thier services on more than one occasion

Right then.
My car has been with my Mechanic since Tuesday evening for a few jobs to be done.
I gave him a list of 14 items that I wanted doing, looking at and checking.

Went back Wednesday night and we had reduced the list to 9, the others were deemed unnecessary.
He said he would have the car finished by Friday evening.

Not heard anything since although I did ask him to call me if he had bad news.  O_o
Just phoned and spoke to his wife, he's out at the moment and due back in the next hour.

So I'm sat in a Restaurant near by (rude not to) having a beer but here's the kicker.
I'm sat here like a 15 year old School Girl who's sat on the bus waiting for a phone call from her first boy friend about whether or not they will get together tonight!

Can't stop playing with my Mobile, got firmly clutched in both hands.  :$
Well apart from the time I had to put it down to right the drivel.

I start my trip Monday morning with my Wife.
The weather is looking fantastic for next week but my phone still hasn't rung!

I think you mean a "Krugel".
I've been here nearly 20 years and still I can't get that to sound right every time.
You want to try (no idea of the correct spelling but it sounds like) Hoy beer, which is a Krugel in Upper Austria, oh I could go on and on!

If you ask for a "Tennants", they will point you to the TV  tune it to 'ORF1' and Dr. Who.  O_o

We made it

Beautiful scenery all the way through the Alps, VW presence now very noticeable all the way down the west of Austria and we formed an impromptu convoy several times. Lots of friendly waving going on and some gorgeous cars

Absolutely hammered it down for 2-3 hours in the middle, which was pretty miserable going while trying not to aquaplane (especially as we discovered this morning that the passenger window doesn't seal properly!) but Klaus stayed almost entirely watertight. Then we emerged from one of the (awesome) tunnels and found it had started snowing

Weather at the See is currently very overcast and threatening rain - but I'm hoping there's going to be a big thunderstorm and then clear up as it was a beautiful drive when the sun was out.

Velden is absolutely  rammed full of VW's! I can still hear the odd one tearing past the hotel under boost

Can't make the hotel internet work though, posting on my phone. Oh well!

Klaus is still revving too high, but the throttle cable is very sticky so I'm expecting it's mostly that. Tried some WD40 in Frankfurt but dribbled a little on the exhaust manifold and it's still not quite all burned off  Might well stop by the dealership as it's quite the pain in an auto. Coped really well with 10-odd hours at 4000rpm, mind!

Planning to sink a couple of cold ones now - when I can peel myself off the sofa - think I've earned them! Give us a shout when you get down and we'll try for a mini meet up. Crossing my fingers for you, golfcabrio!

Really well written after such a drive mate, great tale.

1st, the weather improves big time as of Monday.
2nd, you will not find a garage, VW or any other in Austria open on a Saturday, not even in Vienna.  O_o

Got to go my Mechanic is here with my car!
