The full info is coming in all time, just been informed of a party of 11 going the week of the show. Which makes the total number attending well into the 40+ mark!  

Just don't want to send out endless updated of the spreadsheet just yet mate!

Theres 8 of us confirmed going via three cars

We're leaveing livingston on the 23rd and returning 2nd or 3rd Going via newcastle to ijmunden.

From here its not yet decided but we have planned a trip to wolfsburg factory and the ring. 

Staying in velden right behind the show im told lol

I quite like the sticker idea as it would save memorising a lot of info lol

Another thought is what about some mug shots? as we wont allways be driving i guess when the ale starts flowing!

Not sure that we can do the mug shots thing but I would imagine the groups that are there the week before the show (Treffer) should be fairly easy to spot.

But once the 40,000+ hit the area, not even sure photos will help much but maybe be if they wear their MK1OC T-shirts and shout real load you'll be able to spot a few!  

Breakdown cover ?

A question to anyone who has in the past travelled and taken out cover.

My Annual Classicline Car Insurance covers the bare minimum European breakdown assistance.

For the length of time we will be away the AA charge £171 , RAC £103 and Green Flag £70.

The type of cover I am looking for is - Roadside assistance and In the worst case scenario will get car back to UK along with occupants if repair is not possible.

Any other ideas anyone?

FYI
You can always call the 'OAMTC' which is Austria's version of the AA if your really stuck.  
You don't have to be a member and they will provide you with roadside assistance but I've no idea of the charges as I'm a fully paid member.
There number for reference is '120', that's all you need to dial and they do speak English at the Control Center!

Over the next few days I'll post up some other useful information about driving in Austria.

Yeah that will work as long as a suspension leg doesn't give way!  
Just kidding mate, I shouldn't be joking when I'm planning on driving sole to the AGM this year!

Ok Folks, first of all a very Happy Easter to you all!  

Now I've had reply's to about 2/3 of the PT I sent out and so as it is Easter and guessing everyone is fairly busy I'll give it another day of two before I send the email with the spreadsheet.

Just thought I'd post up a link or two with some useful advice on driving through Europe and in particular Austria.
Most people will know this already but there maybe one or two that are toying with the idea for the first time.

 
Compulsory equipment advice from the AA.

Austrian Motorway Vignette (tax Sticker)
Austria by Road
You should get one of these just as you enter Austria!
Stop at the first fuel station you come across and buy one there or stop in a town or village and go to a 'Traffik' (paper shop/news agent) they sell them.
Pay attention to where you place it on the windscreen, if it's not in one of the designated places the camera's might not register it.
Each time they don't, you'll get hit with a 160 Euro fine, simple as that.  

Short term parking.
Many towns and cities have short term parking schemes, so watch out where you park.
Read the signs carefully and if you park in an area marked with blue lines then you are definitely in a short term parking zone.
This link relates to Vienna but it's pretty much the same for the whole of Austria.

Pay attention to the following:
"YOU CAN NOT use more than one 15 minute parking voucher at the same time, use 15 minute parking vouchers in combination with red, blue, green or yellow parking vouchers or use several parking vouchers adding up to more than the maximum admissible parking duration."

Breakdowns.
In the unlikely event of a Mk1 breaking down.  
Call either the Automobile Association 'ÖAMTC' by dialing just 120.
The operators do speak English and they will send help but as you're non members you'll have to pay.
Or call the ARBÖ by dialing 123. There not anywhere near as big but….

Emergency Services.
Last but not least the main emergency numbers.
112   General emergency call
122   Fire
133   Police
140   Mountain rescue
144   Medical emergency
Not one number like back home but if there's an accident and you call the police for example and say that in the accident someone has been hurt.
They will dispatch Ambulance, Fire and police. So you don't have to call all three but do tell them, it helps!  

Now here's something silly to watch out for.
All State owned Buses have absolute right of way on the roads.
They have the right (and will) pull out from a bus stop in front of you.
If you have a coming together with a Bus, you will be liable!   In 999 out of 1,000!!!!!
The same goes for Trams if you visit a City!!!!!

Watch your speed in Villages!!!!!
The Police like nothing more than catching you speeding through the Villages.  
You'll often find them at the exit to the Village, catching you coming though or one Policeman with the radar gun in the middle and the car and other Policeman at the end to pull you over. They are more active towards the end of the Month because they have quotas to fill!

Just did a quick car and head count.
Between May the 16th and the 1st of June we have 9 MK1's plus some other cars and over 50 people attending this trip!  

I'm sure our paths will criss cross with each other and I for one am really looking forward to this trip now!

Could someone explain how the Umweltzonen work? Planning to stop over in Frankfurt on the way down - think I qualify for one or other of the exceptions (27+ years since manufacture, or blue badge) but do I need a sticker or not? All the online info seems to be for German-registered cars and they don't explain how it applies to anything foreign-registered…

But whoever I cross paths with I'm now seriously looking forward to this road trip.  

On the flip side, the weather has been extremely unkind to me at weekend for the last few weeks over here and it's been to darn cold and wet to prep my car for the trip. Mondays to Fridays have been perfect, but weekends just    including this one.

However the weather is getting better and the long range forecast for out trip is mixed but it's looking better everyday!    

Let us know how your preparing your car for your trip?
Knowing the UK weather, you might not be doing any better than me but then I don't have a garage or somewhere under cover!
