Philips Mk1 Jetta 1.9 TDI PD130 Project

This wee grommet arrived today from Greece today, simple but effective

Whilst fitting the drivers lower dash trim, I found the cubby holder was fouling the relief relay mount, and ain't nobody got time for that lol so I cut and wrapped the panel with leatherette which turned out quite good


 











The trim is more taught now but wait till you see the next update 😉

I set about installing the original front floor sound deadening but it was completely worn out what with the pervious owner wearing through the original carpet and though to the metal floor, so I cut to shape a …. yoga mat made of memory foam, yep what else would you use lol
I tidied up the floor looms and bonded the lining down, then installed the like new front carpet section and cut wee sections that fouling and now the carpet fits perfectly.
I connected the lower console and wired in perfectly routing the loom through to the engine for the oil pressure and oil temp guage, I fitted the rest of the lower dash and now it's finished 😊

I bet that feels good to get the interior on the way sorted now?

Yea the interiors finished bar the front seats, I don't want them getting dirty getting in and if if the car just yet, apart from that's it's good to go

At the start of the week, I made the brake lines… this time using a pipe bending tool, it looks nice in my opinion

One thing I did was have each section made in to two Separate parts, so if one segment gets damaged or needs rerouted, I can remove it and change it around

I decided to shoehorn the engine in and see what needs modified, I found the mk4 servo and master cylinder to be abit too far forward and making clearance a bit of an issue, but one of the guys in work suggested using a mk 3 servo as it's a good replacement and slimmer fitting, so I'm on the hunt for a good one.

I'm also trying to get the driveshafts modified, made which is proving difficult but it'll work out I'm sure

This past week, I've been knee deep in the passengers front electrics in the engine bay, thinning the looms a bit and tightening the looms up, I also set about making my own fuse box equivalent and I think I've cracked it, it just needs tidying up but you get the picture 😁

I'm in contact which Dave Mac in Coventry who will be  making driveshafts for me, expensive to me but they're bulletproof and won't fail, good people to talk too but going to get the measurements and see what happens 

Well it's been a month and wellllll….. I've booked the jetta's MOT for the 27th of July, things are coming along nicely.

The electrics on the passengers front area is finished.

 











Then fitting the rad and intercooler finally with vibration dampers holding it securely.

I finally received my new 100% custom made driveshafts from Dave Mac, great job and with 2 inner and outer cv boots fitted earlier today, they look fantastic, I don't have a photo yet of the finished article but they are now completed, here's a few photos of the shafts as they arrived on Wednesday with the cv joints also painted and now fitted

 

Today the car is going to get taken away to get the down pipe of the exhaust replaced because the turbo has changed its location what with the tubular manifold being fitted now, all being well, should be there before 6pm.
I've fitted the shafts after assembling them and have the engine back in, both rear brake flexis are now modified front brake flexis and as that's an easy mod and 1000000% better… also both rear wheel bearings are now replaced with shiny new ones and both front seats in with new genuine seat rail clips

 

This past week I put the Jetta on all 4's and had it taken away to get the downpipe exhaust, finished and good to go….. I genuinely had forgotten how clean it was underneath but once it's home over the weekend, it's time to put its mask on 😊

This past month has been crazy getting things finished, charge pipes, rad pipes, bonnet, arches, bumper fitted, and all niggles in between including starting it for the first time and bedding the cam in! It's down in work now with the headlights aligned, brake and shock test passed, traction control working, abs light out, now I just need to fit the steering wheel air bag resistor and oil pressure switch as well as two door seals… mot is on Thursday at 12:15 so if you want to wish me luck…. please wish away 😉

well guy's and Gail's….. it's legit…. SHE PASSED MOT!!!!

So friggin happy and this past 2 weeks of full on late night tweeking to finish it has been tough but me and my friends have just drove around Belfast and nearly everyone was staring or giving the thumbs up! Completely worth it haha!

It's been awesome to drive it around after so long, alas the trade plates are going back to work tomorrow so next step is to Refurb the wheels again and wait till the new reg number arrives in the post, currently Swansea has the forms I sent so I'm waiting for them to send the reg, once it's on the car, it'll be 100% legal to drive 😉😎😃😁

The only show I'll be going to this year is edition 38 at overstone park near Northampton! I've been 5 times and really looking forward to the camping, BBQ, beers, banter and cars 😁
