MK1 1.5GL 5 Door - "The Golden Retriever"

Hi All,
I'm Zoran, 25 from Poole. Back again, as I used to have this:



But had a chance to buy back a car that I never should have sold so she had to go! Unfortunately I forgot the golden rule - never buy back a car you used to own… it had been abused and just wasnt the same anymore. Any how, bounced around between a few cars and have just bought another mk1!

She's a 5 door 1.5GL who's in need of a bit of love:



The picture makes it look better than it is! It has one black/red wing, patches of surface rust all over the place, and was bought as a non runner.

The guy I bought it off was fed up of the pierburg auto choke messing him around so decided to rip the engine out and replace it with something bigger. Basically he had disconnected everything and not got any further, so I couldn't test the engine. But being someone that I sort of know I took the risk of trusting him that it at least WAS running so shouldn't be too far beyond saving….

This is how we got her home:



15 Miles on a solid bar, the battery was completely fried (even the lcd wont work) so no lights or hazards and was getting dark cf_emoticons__BangHead: We got a couple of mins down the road and realised how stupid an idea it was, so phoned up a mate to come follow close behind with his hazards on for a bit of warning for other drivers atleast.

Will update soon with progress (she's now running) but basically the plan is to clean her up, sort out a couple of mechanical niggles, cure any rust and eventually give her a respray in the same colour. She's already on Coilovers and I've still got these that I was planning on putting on the Cab….   just need a repolish and tidy



Oh and my mate Robbie who helped me get her home has nicknamed her the "Golden Retriever" and it seems to have stuck

Sounds like a bit of a saga mate. Good luck with the project and getting her all sorted again.
