AT LAST! Hairys Resto!!
Well, it's taken me a year or so to get my (Hairy) Arse in to gear and start the resto. Not a huge amount done so far - but it has officially started now! :cheer:
Spent all of last weekend sorting the garage out, only had a few hours on it today but started to strip it anyway.
One MK1 Campaign ready and waiting for resto!
Dismantling has begun!
Rear corner came off in my hand!
Seat belt mounts dont look too bad
Inner arches don't look too bad either (Keeping my fingers crossed!)
Wont get to touch it again until next weekend - will get Saturday on the car then on hols for a week  Maybe I'll start welding next weekend?
In the meantime, got copious amounts of WD40 soaking in to the rear axle mounts - really hope they come off ok - they don't look too good!
I'm still unsure how best to support the car to take the rear axle off - may try and make up box section frame to go in the rear bumper mounts - otherwise scaffold plank or similar with axle props - this ok under the floor?
Finally, anyone recognise these?
Haven't checked myself yet but guessing MK2? Although I'm told the front discs are off an early Passat - period upgrade!
Hope to keep on this and make some good progress - will keep you all posted
Cheers

Do you mean the rust, the WD40 or the Bilsteins?

I supported the rear of mine on axle stands with wooden chocks that fitted on the chassis rails just in front of the rear axle bolts.
They held for a couple of months no probs, and didn't get in the way of the resto either.
Good luck with it

Going to Portugal for a week but seriously contemplated staying at home to work on the MK1 - how sad am I!!

Of course I've not had the time the last month or so to sort, but getting there now!
I've got the car jacked back up (forgot to take the doors off before putting in my narrow garage! ops: ) Rear beam mounting nuts/studs are very corroded. Given second dousing with WD40 tonight but really dont think will make any difference.
Was thinking of getting tap/die set and trying to re-cut thread so smooth - I think its M10, anyone know? :dontknow: Even if I can get access to do this, not idea how to get the nuts off. I'll do a search but any advice appreciated!
Want to get the beam off, tank out and start welding this weekend! 8)
Cheers

Cheers Rajan, had found M10 off ETKA! Going to get a die nut tomorrow to help sort and a small nut splitter, hopefully will do the trick.
When you mention the rear flexi, what are you refering to??

Dubboy means the brake flexi hoses between the car and the rear beam. Often rust up pretty bad and are a pain to undo, so cut off and replace.
My beam studs looked pretty bad and took a bit of cleaning up. I tried a nut splitter, but found it kept wanting to pull at angle - also got a bit concerned about damaging the tread. In the end managed to undo all four nuts. A good extension bar is important as you get some decent leverage and feel for what's going on. Also if the nuts start turning, it's importnat to not move to much too quickly and keep soaking with WD40 prevent to minimise chances of shearing off.
Good luck
