Gutted  for you fella, I am sure you can get it sorted though. PM Timski as I am sure he will have a decent shell kicking around somewhere for a rebuild.

That's really bad news   If I were you I'd keep the lot, and rebuild it into a new shell.

Also, if you're over 25 and can get a classic policy, then once it's rebuilt ask for an agreed value policy rather than fully comp. This way, if you insure it for ?4k and it gets written off, they guarantee to pay out ?4k no questions asked.

the shell itself is fine, hasnt recieved a touch of damage other than its lack of paint. its just the engine bay is one molten mess, ive had a chat with tim now and have decided to go ahead putting a 1.6 gti engine in there, ive already stripped everything except the upper dash, im 99% certain the fire was cause by the heater matrix, most of which is now melted on my carpet.

Ive decided that its not dead yet, intially it was going to cost so much from me but friends and you members have been rallying around, and offering replacement parts, the interior is almost sorted, tim is locating a gti engine for me and other bits and bobs, gotta get a 16v servo and m.c as mine if fully melted.

damn cars. Not going to let this car go though, its too special, at the least im gna get interior, dash and loom in place all painted up, then engine is another challenge.

thanks for all the support….im off to a festival this wknd but ill update soon when ive stripped a bit more out.

Totally gutted for you mate  , but so glad you're gonna get it back on the road :D Great excuse to get the engine done too  :)

I wonder what it is with the small engine blocks that makes them catch fire? Its happend to a couple of owners on here. It'd be good to know if its a common cause that can be checked upon.

Just come across this thread again and have to say I feel terrible for you. I showed my other half who has no interest in Golfs or even cars and even she was absolutely gutted.

I really feel for you mate and wish you all the luck in the World getting her back on the road again.

Good thing is you have all the troops rallying around to help restore her.
You just never know when something like this will happen and it's made me for one go out and buy a fire extinguisher, something i never really thought about before.
Chin up i'm sure she will be soon back on the road  8)
