Restoration help and advice
The primary problem is that it isn't water-tight, even though he had a new cashmere hood fitted a few years ago so I need to get this repaired / adjusted if possible, or replaced as a last resort.
The interior needs work: both front seats need re-padding, and all seats need recovering. The carpets probably need replacing too. And the handle that makes the driver's seat tip forwards doesn't work. Can I get three-point seat-belts fitted in the back as I can't get car seats in the back?
The engine seems sound, although starting it is tempermental (he had the knack, I just don't seem to!) I expect to turn the key and for it to start; maybe that needs sorting out too!
He bought a new dashboard for it and that needs fitting.
When all the other jobs are done it'll have a full re-spray (I have somewhere to do this).
I am in Dunstable, Bedfordshire. Is there anywhere local-ish (within 60 miles) where I can get these things done?
All help appreciated!!

Please bear with me… I'm used to driving a mkiv Supra TT!!

First I’m sorry for your loss.
In regards to the car the leaking problems with the hood can be a few things.
Such as it wasn’t fitted correctly or certain processes weren’t followed at the time.
Like gaskets or sealant applied in the correct areas.
I’m over in Derby and we specialise in the MK1 Golf hoods etc.
But if you want more information give me a call.
Interior wise you can buy new cushion bases.
And some trimmers can supply the OEM material.
I did a guide on how to refurbish the seats.
https://vwgolfmk1.org.uk/forum/index.php?page=topicview&id=how-to_2%2Fseat-refurb-with_2
Or depending on seat shape the foam bases are the same as the MK2 cars.
I list the part Number in the guide.
Hope this helps you a bit.
