project shoe string - only taken me 18 months to do this!!

finally took some pictures of my dialy "project" car.

bought him 18 months or so ago from a chap whose house i walked past, car wasnt for sale but a little bit of persueding and my old man whos a tank and he let it go for ?300. quite chuffed but knew there would be alot of work to do so it begun;

arches were first,

only used filler which regret big time now!! as this happened now;

ahhhhhhhhhhhh rust again!!!!!!!

after the arches were attacked a mate was selling some wheels, 14 x 8J, alot of poke both front and rear!! but were too nice to let go so before the slam they went on;

but then again, disaster thanks to the local highways agecy who doesnt repair roads!

 could not believe it!!!!!! absolutely gutted but qith the help of a mate, and a large hammer he got it out so theyre getting refurbed by me atm, cant decide on a colour though!!

did a great job on it!! cheers Spike, i owe you mate!!

had a bit of a go with filler again (stupid i know) at a hole around the rear windscreen, worked well for about a week lol and the rust again!! paint match is awful too!! again not happy at all!!

so thats my boy atm, on his winter wheels, i love him!! so easy to work on and parts are sooooooo cheap!! o and a slam for ?150!! BO!

so if anyone can photoshop the 14's that im refurbing in different colours that would be ace!! thinking either black again wiothout the green band or possibly something wild like cream / white?? dont know!!

Looking good so far! It's very very similar to mine (lhasa green GX).

How many coats of paint did you put on the bits that have rusted? Was it cold and /or wet when you painted? That might have had an effect on it. Not a critisism, just trying to help! (with what little I know…).  :D

mate i dont mind if you do critisise i know my car isnt the best around and anyone who has something to say i listen too.

i cant remember mate think it was a good 2/3 coats it was a little cold not too bad but hopefully make a few friends on here and get some people from midlands/worcestershire area to call on and help me out lol!!

still got a few problems with the car but im never happy, tried to fit a weber today but it wouldnt return on the accelerator pedal ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh so still running the 1b3 but at least got rad fitted. noticed sump gasket is leaking today too, fix one leak, find another god darn it lol!!

hi mate

looking good, like the banded steels too, shame about the damage!

As to the rot, if you cant cut out, replace and weld up, then at least take a good rough sheet of sandpaper to the rust first, rub it back and expose as much good metal as you can, then treat with something like hammerite Kurust. let that dry and set, (kills all the rust) then prime, fill, rub and paint, then if the rust does coem back through, it'll be years not weeks….
