My Mk1 Gti Daily project

My Mk1 Gti Daily project

Been a member of the site for quite a while but not really put any pics up.

Anyway this is how i bought it.

This was the interior after about a solid hours vacuuming

Before getting it ready for the road i bought some sebrings that had been rattle canned black (not the best of condition but they have done me well) and fitted a gsf front splitter.

Which left me with this

Now onto the cleaning

Then moved onto claying and machine polishing with the Meguires G220 polisher left it looking like this.

Then we had a few issues with the alarm so that had to come off.

I then moved onto a bit of tidying up of the front and engine bay

Fitted a Janspeed intake pipe aswell

Grill trims looking in a sorry state

Gentle heated them with a oxy torch and wirebrushed the paint off

Etch primed and painted Mars red 2
Also used halfords flexable vynal paint on the black plastic

Unfortunatly i have yet to take a pic of it re-fitted.

Also did the cam and cam belt covers

Started by using a bead blasting cabinet to clean them off

Not the greatest condition but does the job

Again etch primed and painted

Will get some fitted pics

Since then i fitted some new Janspeed coilovers as the old ones had worn out.

Car in comedy drag stance while doing the rears, lol

Fronts fitted, along with new top mounts

Other than going for a 6hr round trip to the sea thats us about up to date

Hope you like, this has all been over a 6 month period.
I will update as i go along with this car.

That looks hard as nails with that suspension drop on the black sebrings, I like that a lot.  8)

Is that the stuff you spray on and leave to run off? Is it called something like snow? I think I saw it on one of those product review pages in a mag, what's it like?

Yradave says relax.

Thanks matey

Its called snow foam, you spray it on and let it dwell for about 5-10 mins and it pulls all the dust off and softens up the bigger ingrained dirt.

Todays little update.

Fitted my first gauge, still got to buy another 2 but i am liking these new Stack gauges and think they go well with the car.

Its a little dusty but all the same

The rear is all stripped out now

Got a little area that needs sorting but one of my mates thinks it just needs linishing back as it seems solid, time will tell.

Did a bit of sound deadening on the back panel, will do some more once i have sorted the above as i want to carpet all the boot as i dont like exposed metal.

Spent some time on the Golf the weekend as it was annoying me being stripped out.

Firstly i had bought a sheet of Faux (fake) leather off ebay to do some trimming, i didn't take any pics of during the work but here it is finished.

Firstly the boot cards

then the "C" pillars

Did the "B" pillars and along under the rear 1/4 windows

Im really pleased with the outcome, let me know what you think  8)

Nice job, looks really smart. Good idea with the boot cards, was wondering what to do with mine when I get round to re-trimming

Did these as the material was all peeling off and they looked really tatty.

Used the same stuff on everything i put it on to matey used this from B&Q but a bigger tin used 2 tins of it

http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav/skins/popups/scene7.jsp?skuId=9262076

Just spread it on to the metal and the leather surfaces and leave to go dryish/tacky then put the leather stuff onto the metal, just make sure the metal is clean first, i just wiped over it with some thinners/white spirit.

Also i took the rear 1/4 windows out to do this so i could hook the material over where the window rubber fits and glued along there aswell.

I used a metal scraper to spread it rather than the supplied brush as with the brush you will be there all week spreading it out.

Also the fake leather i got from ebay, was only about ?8 i think for 1metrex1.3metre

Hope this helps mate

Cheers matey, the 8's need the arches trimmed, the fronts were done a long time ago but i will need to do the rears as they will scrub the tires unless its done.

Also i got the snow foam and foam lance from www.cleanyourcar.co.uk
