Alternator - Identification

Post

Hi All,

First time poster - hello everybody! This won't be my last post I'm sure.

I have a MK2 Scirocco 1.8 8V KJET DX engine. I've went to change the alternator belt and decided to change over the alternator brushes at the same time. I'll probably change the pulley and fan if I can as the fan is slightly dented and the pulley has seen better days. The brush unit / voltage regulator looks very similar to the Topran unit here but the listing says this is only suitable for a Bosch unit. My unit has a Lucas sticker on it, unfortunately not complete, and I can find anything to guide me with what the remaining info on the sticker says. The electrical block on the back is marked Bosch though so can anyone shed any light as to what unit this is and whether the brushes will be suitable? The voltage regulator in the link you posted is the correct one and should fit.

Clean up the little tap inside the alternator where the regulator fits as it looks a little crusty.

over on this side of the pond, for the cost of the regulator they throw in the alternator for about 10 bucks more.

I would remove your pulley, as over on this side of the pond they usually come without the pulley.

That is the Bosch Style of Alternator,  Lucas, and Motorola made them…. But then there is the
"Motorola style" that the westy;s used that has a pluger versus a couple of ring connectors.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Yep pulley and fan to be replaced. That solves that then with Lucas making the Bosch style. Saw mentions of Bosch and Motorola in the Haynes but nothing about Lucas. Cheers!
