So, my 1st project for my new Cabby is to sort out the instrument cluster which has 3 issues:
LCD clock display dead. Looks like LCD panel needs replacing
Trip reset button snapped off
High-beam indicator light doesnt work
Had a look around the web and found kn Ebay a replacement LCD panel kit for about £38. Anyone used these before? Or can anyone suggest an alternative?
Trip reset button, its snapped off level with the dials so I'm not sure if this can even be fixed or if it's worth it. Stripping down the cluster doesnt phase me much but that could be because I'm enthusiastic but naive lol
The high beam lamp sounds pretty straight forward if I could find the type or spec of the LED bulb that I need. Again, anyone know this? A previous forum topic had a link to maplins website but that link expired along with maplins lol
Once I've got the cluster out I'll probably stick LEDs in the sockets in the back too
Looking to get all these done in 1 hit as opposed to have to refit then remove the cluster repeatedly
I'll keep searching but any advice appreciated as always
Much obliged

Not sure about the reset but a stripdown would be a good start and pretty easy to do.
The high beam LED is covered in the FAQs at the bottom of the Forum. I did mine with bulbs from Maplins when they were open. There'll be other suppliers though. Also covered in my build these.

the VDO is a different animal and can be repaired.
Don't know about the clock. IIRC the high beam, make sure that you have a signal in on the pin prior to assuming the bulb is toast, the connections on the cluster is iffy.. and you can plump them up.
You can also test it with a 9v battery, place the negative lead on the ground pin (2 brown) and the other on the pin for the high beam.
What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?
They all start with GOOD Grounds.
Where are my DIY Links?

I’ve been told that you can heat the LCD up up and press it together to cure it.
Something to do with the glue used during manufacturing.
Not tried it myself though so whether it works or not I don’t know.

Got the bad bulbs out, now gonna scour the web to find replacements and wait for them before putting everything back in
Thanks to the How To Guides you Guys have made this process was easier than i expected, a few nervous moments but nothing a deep breath and a little push with a small flat-screwdriver doesn't fix
WIll keep you all posted

Re:
Originally I was only replacing the full-beam indication light inside the cluster but somehow managed to buy LED's for the display toothe_whip said
What bulbs are you replacing - the three that light up the dash, or the indication lamps in the centre?
Also need to change the LCD clock as mine was degraded
Got it all back together but the full-beam LED only flickers on briefly so checking connections to and from

My advice to anyone thinking of doing this, take pictures as you go! I did and had to refer back to them frequently, what screw goes where etc….
Oh and of course, use the search function on this forum. You'll find so much useful info on here already
