Electronic ignition or points….

Electronic, on the side of the dizzy there is a connector.

carefully separate the rubber boot off the plug.

with a DVOM 20V scale

There should be a positve, a negative and a white and green signal wire.  Place your meter on the signal wire, and the other side to ground.

Key on  Slightly rotate the dizzy, you should see the meter go from 0 to 11V and the fuel pump should run.
Back it off  and re-do it.

That verifies your Hall Sender, so suspect the ICM or the coil.

points, then adjust them and replace the condenser

OH Timing set the timing statically..

Is ur coil earthed. Not sure if these are the same but Im  restoring a mk2 escort and I had no spark. For the life of me could not understand why. Anyway I got so annoyed I just bolted it all in place and I had a spark.  It seemed that for some reason the coil had to be earthed to inner wing by the cradle for it to work

No that could be the problem, gonna try that when I get home! Hopefully that will do it, could the fuel pump relay have anything to do with? As I'm not sure I wired that in properly? I followed the link on the forum but if I unplug the relay it's still comes on when I turn the key?? But pump is defiantly working as that's how I discovered that the banjos were loose when I got sprayed with petrol ;)  I found out I have a jh engine with a moody k-jet ecu for the emissions side of it would that have anything to do with the spark? I didn't think so because its all getting power ?? I will try and try again later!! Keep you posted
Thanks again for all the help

Well the fuel pump relay, usually is powered off the coil….  So you may have something amiss.

With no fuel pump relay installed and you turn the key, then there shouldn't be any fuel pump activity…

Grounds Grounds Grounds,
Can't pound on that enough…….

Battery to frame, frame to engine/tranny.

Head (valve cover) to bracket on coil.
Shoot, there shouldn't be any emissions crappage that will prevent spark.

I would start resistance or voltage drops between the engine and the battery, then the frame to battery, Should be basically the same as between battery posts, over a .5V difference then you have issues on your cables usually groundy ones.

Also measure the difference between the Coil Bracket and frame to the Positive Post (voltage)….

thanks for this i this, thats how i done it, i notice you have the 2 black wires connected together then attatched to the coil? i have both black wires connected? not sure it makes a difference, i also notice the chunky wire you haveattatched to the bracket where does that go for your ground?

thanks again

Both my black wires go in. One in to each connection. that's just a bit of electrical tape holding them together. The earth strap goes on to a Bolt on the rear of the cylinder head just below rocker cover passenger side. Can't get pic as cany get phone into good enough position

Right guys changed the coil again and I got one spark so nearly fell over! But then nothing and haven't been able to get one since? Any ideas ??
I've done all the grounds

I now have changed the coil twice
I also changed the icm then got another spark
But then nothing ?
Does the icm need to be earthed?
Or is there anything wiring wise that could be blowing the icm up or the coil each time ?
Thanks again

Some one may correct me but I believe The icm is earthed from the plug straight to the battery
