My stereo is not working properly :(

Hi, I have a 1987 citigolf with original tape player, but my problem is that it works fine when the ignition is off apart from drivers speaker, which sometimes gets feedback if you press on the corner of it, but my main problem is tht when I start the car, it goes off and all I get is feedback, any help would be greatly appreciated
