So I have plugged in A terminal at the back of the fuse box and noticed that the black/yellow has also been cut.

From what I have worked out from John's excellent fuse box diagrams is the front lights (white wire), points power (purple/white wire) and horn (black/yellow wire) have been cut/disconnected and there is a horn on the front of the car with a brown wire vaguely attached to it but nothing else. Why would these be cut they aren't connected in some way are they.

I have also removed the masking tape off the pins/connectors and another wire has been cut. I havent taken a picture yet but it's this one here and its yellow/white and I cannot find out what this powers as Johns ceramic fuse box diagram doesnt put the colours on those particular pins/connectors and people like me need it in very very simple child diagrams.

the thing with 30 on it is some kind of fuse I guess, really odd thing and has no place in a MK1 thats for sure. the yellow/white plugged into it is probably from the front fogs

Its a bit unclear but the reason the G spades have no wire colours is they usually dont have any wires connected, it depends on the options installed. the list is just to tell you what the feeds do :)

so spade 2 is live when front washers jets are on, if you have headlight washers the relay for this would be plugged in here for example

yellow/white could be front fogs, best to chase things to source as non of it is factory really

Hi John
Thanks for the reply
Yeah I'm not sure at all about the 30 thing. Its attached to something, so I dare not cut it, I will try and trace it back first, maybe someone was trying to wire something in the lights, hence the headlight wire being cut and that joined to the fog light socket

So the tags/pins on G are sort of auxiliary pins, I think that nearly all of them have a plug on them.
I think i am going to have to take the dash out and sort what's what. Gives me a serious back/neck ache crouched under the dash.
I printed out your ceramic fuse box guide and have a copy in the car, seriously good info that.

From my previous thread I have a new master cylinder (NOS) but it has 3 tags on the brake light switch instead of 2. Do you know which tags I use.

Also I asked about engine identification and you said give me the distributor code.
Its 0 237 021 041

Thanks again John.

I dont have a diagram to hand for the 3 pin brake switch, but I would say 83 is the common live pin and you just need to figure out which pin goes live when the brakes are pressed. the other pin I guess is live when brakes not pressed?

030905205B -> L -> Q distributor is listed for MK2 Golf & Polo 1.05L HZ code engine :)

Thanks John, I shall just try a few combinations till one works as I can get them to stay on, but nothing when I push the pedal. I'm working on it outside and everytime I get somewhere it pisses down, so it's a slow process at the minute

I found a code on the cylinder head which told me it's a mk2 golf/polo engine seems a strange engine swap to me, alot of work for no gain and its lost its its originality. A bit annoying if I'm honest.

Anyone got a 1981 1.1 MK1 engine I can have.

Actually would an mk1 1.1 cylinder head fit on the my mk2 golf/polo bottom end cause I wouldn't mind doing the head gasket anyway.

that doesnt work as the piston design changes between the early solid lifter engines vs later hydro type
