Hi there my name martyn iv just got a 2.0 abf 16v engine with twin dellorts carbs for my mk1 golf. don't no about the gearbox side of it. Can you help me plz? Can I put a mk1 golf gti gearbox to the abf engine. With a mk1 gti fly wheel and cluch. plate cheers martyn

Yes you can, but the abf is more powerfull, clutch may slip,  preferably use an up rated clutch.

[will I need a mk3 golf abf box fly wheel and cluch then?. will the gearbox mounting that i have on my gti mk1 work on a mk3 gear box? and do i need to change to cable or is rod still ok? cheers martyn

std 1.8 210mm clutch kit will be fine, gearbox should be too as long as you dont mistreat it, lots of wheelspinning and slamming thru the gears isnt good for them.
