Losing No Claims discount

Post

Hello all,
sad times ahead, ive been very fortunate that ive always works within 5 miles of where i live which has allowed me to use my cabby as a daily but still do less than 3k a year. Work will be moving so i need something economical and i could see my cabby with a ton of miles on it.

ive owned my cabby for over 3 years and have used classic car insurance. before this ive had full no claims bonus, never had an accident and have always had fully comp. To my dispare i have been told that as ive had classic car insurance which has been with no accidents i would now lose them as classic car insurance doesnt use your no claims.

Is this true.

I will be putting the car up for sale in a month or 2 and buying a newer car and it would be horrible if ive lost all those no claims.

Hope you guys can advise.

thanks

dan

Yea classic car insurance you don't build up not claims

If you had no claims before hand have used them for 2 year they are also lost

Hi mate
I've a classic policy and it does not gain no claims on it, I would have thought they would have explained this to you when you took your policy out ? Also on your renewals I would have thought it would have said something on them?
Does your previous no claims still stand though for a certain amount of time I'm sure someone on here would know the answer, sorry to hear your having to sell your cabby could you not keep it and buy youself something cheap and cheerful to get you to work?
Cheers

Before hand I had 9 no claims, no faults etc and they were protected. Then I got the cabby and had classic insurance since which is 3 years.

That's such a sh****ter, no ones ever mentioned it but then I haven't read my insurance documents fully so it is my fault.

I wish I could keep the cabby but the company has moved 70 miles away and im going to start commuting that so I need something decent. Keeping the car means ill have a few grand less to spend on another car so the money is needed.

So peed off, just done an insurance quote its it £300 more without no claims. grrrrrr

If the company is moving arnt you entitled to money for the commute?

Yeah sort of, they have offered a full moving package but im not moving just yet ive only just finished refurbing my first house.

Due to it almost being a london commute I will receive a pay rise but this will only cover so much.

At the moment my insurance is £150 or so and I hardly use the car to then spending probably £300 a month on fuel and now an extra £500 or so on insurance so bit of a c**p one but it's a great company which I have progressed well in and with a recent promotion im now in a great position to progress a lot more so its wise to stay.

Have a look around mate see what you might be able to get while keeping the cabby you might be surprised, where there is a will there's a way, but if needs must I can see why you would have to sell.
Good luck mate

well i really want to make sure i have a nice car but something that is also good on fuel but i think i deserve a bit of luxury as well as my spine breaking cabby has given me a rough 3 years lol.

im looking to spend £5k ish but would need a min of £2k for my cabby.

i was looking at a volvo v50 estate 2.0l sport, pretty good on fuel, a lovely looking car with a bit of a kit a few toys and leather and between 5-6k you can get a 2006-7 with good miles and spec without selling the golf im looking at a mk4 golf gti tdi with like 100k on and boring as you can get lol

Ring around a few brokers.
You might be surprised what they could offer if you explain your situation.
They may be able to secure you a better deal with the insurer and give you a intoductory no-claims discount if your classic insurer proves you have had no claims in the time of the policy (maybe).

Don`t always trust comparison websites and except that they will be the cheapest either, the main comparision websites are actually owned by different insurance companies, and believe me the practices on them are unbelivable, like when you see the 100`s of companies who can`t quote at the bottom, its more like been resticted from quoting due to the price or they don`t offer a decent commission to the comparision site.

Anyway I have rambled on a bit

i was a bit worried to read this since i have max no claims bonus.

i phoned my insurers  today "flux direct"  –0800 089 0154
its actually a company called "kinetic" im insured through and it IS a classic car policy and i DO still keep and increase my no claims discount every year.

so its not every classic car policy you lose your discount on, it put my mind at ease at least but thanks for bringing up this topic.

I have just even in a similar situation, having been insured for 5 years on a classic policy that didn't build up no claims with Peter Best. Having bought a '04 Beetle I had to get insurance with a normal insurer and had no no claims to offer.

However, Peter Best were able to provide me with a 'letter of good driving' which shows the start and finish dates of my time with them and that I have made no claims during this time.

My new insurers, esure, were able to accept this as the equivalent of 5 years no claims bonus. Not all insurance companies will do this, but ring round and speak to a few and you may well find one who will, then provides you can obtain a similar document from your classic insurer, you may find you are ok after all.

i nearly suffered with this and lost 8 years no claims

Try and go back to the last insurer you had the no claims bonus with an ask them if you get letters from the insurers you had your classic car insurance with stating you made no claims they may allow you to re instate it

I did something similar but got my company to confirm I had, had no claims whilst on my company insurance (i.e policy not in my own name past 2 years) and admiral re issues my no claims so I didn't loose it
