Porous head cylinder

Post

Hi !

I have coolant leaking issues potentially mitigated by last servicing repairs but I was advised that the cylinder heads are very porous and holed!
Just left a grand there I can't cope with another big job any time soon I found a product that promises to seal it... for few pounds.

Has anyone tried to use K-Seal?

I have never heard of metal as being porous, with the exception of Metal grates, screen, and Steel Wool.

I had a leak on a Large engined Oldsmobile, and I used the Corvette Radiator Pellets.    It saved me a replace the intake manifold gasket costs.  I got the idea from my Brother who stated that GM is using these in all cars off the line to prevent itty-bitty leaks.

The questions is where is it leaking from?  A outlet flange, a water pump, knowing where it is leaking effects the repair.

I have used Bars leak, before with fair results prior to getting parts together for a good repair.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Alloy wheels can leak air (I had that problem years ago with a MK1 Driver and aftermarket alloys), so not impossible that ally cylinder heads can get porous but not heard that's its a common problem with VWs?

Suspect its probably internal corrosion due to not maintaining the correct level of anti-freeze which contains corrosion inhibitors which for alloy heads is just as important as the anti-freeze bit.

In 60/70s when alloy heads were becoming common lots corroded and leaked or bunged up the cooling system leading to over heating when people ran them with old anti-freeze just plain water in summer which was no problem with 'tradition' cast iron blocks and heads.
