HELLLLLLLP 1.1 engine

My 1.1 in my mk1 has just decided it no longer wants to live so I need a new engine for it, could someone please reccommend what engine is best for a straight swap that will be as hassle and pain free as possible, whilst at the same time giving a small amount more power. I have been looking at the Idea of a 1.3 but dont know which is best for straight fitment from mk1 mk2 golf , or polo mk1 mk2 or a 1.4 8v from polo. my heads spining. please may someone post with an engine for sale that will bolt straigh in and onto my 4 speed within a million miles of bedfordshire. thank you all

If your thinking of a CC up-grade I.E 1.3 of more check with your insurance company first.May be worth getting a re bore done on your motor !is there anybody on this website with a 1.1? if you do go down the newer engine option from a mk2 fairly straight forward.

Polo 16v, not a straight swap but no far off. Engine mount stays put, g/box mount needs rework (bracket not car), ECU's wiring needs plumbing in (unless you go for bike carbs), exhaust needs fettling slightly. Pretty much it really. 100 horses 5 gears.

yes it is now running, the normal from me is to over react and it ended up to be a massivley dead water pump and new rad needed both sorted now so happy for now but will need more power soon. now its getting colder It is starting to not like driving which i think is down to the carb and maybe the fact it has a k and n on it. does anyone know if a standard air filter will make it run better once i have the carb all set up with the standard one on it. and also does anyone have one they would like to sell me or could please tell me what one actually looks like

It will be better with the standard filter on it because it was originally desighned that way and the warm air from the exhaust manifold is directed through a pipe to stop it iceing up in cold conditions. If you cant get a standard filter you could always get some pipe and direct it to your K+ N attaching it to the side [ Ive seen this done before]
