Does this look right?

Hi guys, finally got my Golf-with-a-boot fired up today. After stripping the interior to dry footwells… I tried to fire it up as it had been left for a while. It wouldn't go, no lights on dash and wouldn't fire up, fuse box had been wet. So I put in a heater blower all day today and thoroughly dried the interior. Fired up first go and ran fine for half an hour, I noticed some steam? mist? (the same stuff that you get when you breath out on a cold day haha) around the front wheel drivers side. I really couldnt figure out where it had come from, but whilst under there I noticed this…

Should that pipe be there? seems a bit odd to me!

Thanks for any help given!

looks like the crank breather hose, should go to the air filter unless the engines knackered and it pushes loads of oil vapour up it,some people aim it at the floor to stop the air filter blocking up and clogging the carb up

Thanks Bert,
So do I just leave it be or investigate further?

I kinda get what you mean… haha.

So it usually goes up to the air filter rather than pointing down at the ground, but this can throw oil up, so people aim it at the ground yea? If mine has been moved i'm guessing that suggests it has done in the past. Seems like a bit of a bodge to me!

ye its a bodge, try changing the crank filter in the back of the block where the pipe goes to,this can cause problems,
