Can I fit a manual choke to my 1.1?

Post

Yo,

My little 76 1.1 doesn't have a manual choke, it's a pig to start and stay running nicely in this cold weather until she's warm, then she's golden.

Is fitting a manual choke an option, I assume it has an auto choke now, I've not looked properly as it's dark now, but assume it must have… or maybe that's duff?

Or am I just expecting too much of it when it's -2 outside?

It should start and run ok when cold, are you starting it correctly for a carb car,, before starting press the accelerator pedal to the floor then release, when cranking the engine you'll need to press the accelerator a little and it should start, leave to idle for a minute or two before moving off…

Hi mark, yes mate that's how I start all my cold carb stuff.

It's really boggy in this cold, like I rev it and it doesn't even wanna rev, eventually it'll pick up, then I hold the revs up until it starts to get warm and she's fine… I'll admit she's been in storage for a couple months but drove ok when I picked her up, ever since this cold snap tho she's not happy… as said tho when's she's warm, like a new engine, so smooth and happy.

Is the hot air feed pipe to the air filter/carb in good condition and if the 1.1 is like the 1.6 the vacuum feed diverter valve working?

Honestly, not sure, everything looks to be very good condition. But I'll have a look later when home. I'll have to pop the air filter off so I can have a look around that area.

buy a new damper, like this https://srotas24.co.uk/car-parts/engines-and-engine-parts/, this is the best solution, i don't know what else to say
