1.3 carb to polo GT conversion

i need as much info as poss really?
has any1 created a 'how 2 guide' on this?

im gathering all the engine mounts will be fine (except the gearbox), direct swap from the old block to the GT block.
also if i went down the route of keeping it on injection, bigger fuel lines, GT pumps? Would carbs be a cheaper and easier solution?
and obviously thers the dilemma of the wiring?
any info is muchly appreciated

thanks in advance, chriz

i've posted the following for someone on here in the past

our Matt has converted his mk1 1.3 to multipoint fuel injection using parts from a NZ engined Polo

….

3 good choices are

65bhp Polo mk3 1.3 multipoint (NZ engine code)
75bhp Polo mk3 GT 1.3 multipoint (3F engine code)
Golf mk3 1.4 (ABD engine code)……with multipoint injection off a Polo GT….this gives over 90bhp

following details are assuming the engine is a Polo mk3 GT 1.3 multipoint (3F engine code)

you need a engine loom & ECU from a GT……this needs to be cut back to the basics need for the ECU to run the engine

you'd need to fit a in-tank liftpump from any mk3 Polo……fits straight in

also you need to fit the main inline pump from a Polo GT

GTI ridgid fuel lines

de-cat downpipe for a  Polo GT or G40…..or even a Ashley 4 branch….then mate that to a GTI exhaust system

to fit a 5 speed box into a mk1 1.1/1.3 you need to fabricate a gearbox mount….gearbox end Polo mk3, chassis leg end from a 1.5/1.6/1.8 or GTI……piece of plate in between the 2

our Matt has converted his mk1 1.3 to multipoint fuel injection using parts from a NZ engined Polo

he used a engine loom & ECU from a mk3 Polo……this needs to be cut back to the basics need for the ECU to run the engine (4 to 6 wires)

fitted a in-tank liftpump from any mk3 Polo……fits straight in

main inline pump, filter, accumulator & mounting bracket from a Polo…..mounted on rubber mounts under the boot area

you can use GTI ridgid fuel lines……our Matt made his out of copper pipe

exhaust wise a GTI exhaust works well (Matt has a custom made system)& de-cat downpipe for a Polo GT or G40 (it's possible to de-cat a standard Polo downpipe)…..or even a Ashley 4 branch….then mate that to a GTI exhaust system (you need a flexi joint really between the end of the downpipe & centrebox)

to fit a 5 speed box into a mk1 1.1/1.3 you need to fabricate a gearbox mount….gearbox end Polo mk3, chassis leg end from a 1.5/1.6/1.8 or GTI……piece of plate in between the 2

there's a bit of messing about with coolant hoses, mainly the pipes to the heater matrix…….a Polo has a bleed screw on the heater matrix, a Golf does'nt…..so you need to slacken off the top pipe to the heater matrix to get the air out

if you fit a NZ/GT or G40 the airbox won't fit between the inner wing & cambelt cover…….cone filter solves this easily

………

my conversion is slightly different from my brothers

i'm fitting a 1.4 from a mk3 Golf with fuel injection from a Polo GT into my gold Driver

loom & fusebox are from a Polo GT, dash loom is from a mk2 Polo & the rear light loom from a mk1 Golf

also going to mod the innerwing so i can fit the airbox from a Polo GT

no need

intank liftpump & float switch thingy from a mk3 Polo fits straight into a 1.1/1.3 tank

Sorry if i'm being really thick, but if you weren't using the whole injection system (running bike carbs instead), do you still need the wiring loom and ecu??
Or can you use/adapt the wiring in the mk1? Use the mk1 dizzy, etc.?

Would be running a facet fuel pump, the standard sort of bike carb setup, just need someadvice on the wiring! Cheers  :)

If its going into a mk2 golf you can use your existing dizzy and ignition amp and coil on the 3F engine. Easy! :) If its going into a mk1 golf, those parts will be needed from either a mk2 golf 1.3 or a hydraulic carb'd engine'd 1.3 polo to convert to electronic ignition.

The facet fuel pump is just a case of attaching two wires 8)

Quality :) will the 3F ecu/loom still be needed even for a carb setup or will it run on the 1.3 MH setup?

Cheers
