1.1 help needed
hello, brought a 1.1 formel e golf over the weekend, had been stored for about 7 year, problem is; it starts but when i try and drive off in first (if i can find it!) it just loses power and stalls, even with mega high revs, any advice as to what problem this could be?
whats the best thing to do to engines that have been off the road for a good while?
cheers in advance,si

Best thing is to give it a good service, plugs, points, fuel filter, oil etc
If it's been stored for that long fresh petrol wouldn't go amiss and
I'd put a new cambelt on too!
Your problem could be carb, the older engines had the solex
carbs so probably one of the jets is blocked or becoming blocked
as the older fuel passes through dragging 7 years of gunk.
A thoroughly good clean out usually does the trick.

take the fule inlet off the pump and dunk it in a can of fresh petrol thus eliminating fuel tank/filter/lines.
See how she runs then.

Yeah sounds like dirt in the fuel or points/condensor from my experience. I bought a mk1 that had sat for 4 years and it would stall under the same conditions you mentioned and the points/condensor fixed it. Also check theres no splits in your carb mount drawing in air
As above a full service is a good idea

Hi ive got a formal-e myself and it was running like a bag or rubbish when i picked it up! All i did was clean between the carb and rubber mount, clean the main and idle jets, adjust the mixture screw and the tickover and now she runs really well!
