Inner CV Seal?

Hi, i'm doing an engine conversion on my cabby and have found this forum unbelivably useful in the last few weeks when i've got stuck with something. I have however run into a problem.

On the inner CV there's a seal/gasket which has split as i've separated it from the flange on the gearbox. Does anyone know if this part is available on its own? If not will i have to buy a new CV in order to get it? I tried VW but there's no part number listed so they suggested buying the whole driveshaft assembly. No thanks!!  8O

It's listed on the pic below as 36A and you can see what i mean about mine in the bottom pic.

I havent ever seen one on either of the cabrio's I've had. Maybe it was deemed unnecessary after a few years of production. The fact that the CV joint clamps up really tight against the differential flange should be enough to keep the grease from oozing out.

Cheers,

Ross

I was thinking along those lines as it was already split and there weren't any signs of leakage. Sure my other mk1 doesn't have them either. I also thought about making my own as it looks as though it'd be pretty simple and a lot cheaper than buying new CV's!
