changing a c.v gaitor

hello, i tryed to replace my outer c.v boot but came across a problem when i couldnt get the c.v joint off to fit the new boot on, how can i get this off? i have been told there is a tool 2 strech the boot over but the small hole seems too small to fit over the c.v  joint??? so had to put everything back on again. help please

You need to take the CVJ off, to fit the boot round it. I've seen 'repair' boots which split and then are sealed up by some kind of bolts, but not my kind of thing…

cv boot

For a quick short term fix buy new cv boot, then cut it neatly with sharp blade, then glue it back together, spoke to an mot man he said it would pass if glued up properly…..long term fix just have to get that cv off mate, i had probs with mine, but that was getting the hub nut off, you get a new nut  with the cv boot kit so i used a dremel to cut off the nut without damaging the thread. If you changing the cv as well doesnt matter if you damage thread on cv outer end as new cv replaces…
I bought a cheap boot and it only lasted a year before it cracked..
