Organising a Regional Meet? then read this..

Hi and welcome to the regional meets page of the Mk1 Golf Owners? Club.

The regional meet are the back bone of the club, it?s a chance for fellow mk1 owners to get together in a relaxed atmosphere have a look at each other?s cars, have a chat and possibly pick up some tips.
The regional meets have just got better and better as time goes on with a wide verity of themes and places to go other than standing on wet pub car parks.
There have been trips to the seaside trips through the Welsh mountains Car treasure Hunts, Go-karting days, trips to motor museums and big mass regional meets where 3 -4 regions meet up at one place.
The diversity of what can be done to make meets interesting is only limited by your imagination.
But before we all get carried away there are some things we need to remember it?s here that I will post what Drew one of the founders of the club who wrote these wise words about meet etiquette.

1. At the moment, regional events are not insured by the Club. Effectively this means that if you run over a small child in a car park it is your responsibility. (We may be able to change this in the future). Please make sure all attendees understand this. The Club cannot currently provide any assistance in this area. Make sure all attendees behave appropriately and safely.

2. Bear in mind you are representing the 'Mk1 Golf Owners' Club'. In practice this means that the kind of attitude we have on this site, particularly with respect to good language (pre watershed concept), responsibility (e.g. drink and drive) and respect should be the same for regional meets. We're family friendly above all. We advertise our website freely on many of our cars, and are thus subject to public scrutiny.

3. Obey all instructions and requests from car park / pub / open area owners where you hold your meets. If you find you can't work with their rules move somewhere else. Don't argue with them.

4. Look out for new folks, avoid the tendency to be cliquey, and don't prejudge heavily modified, tatty cars or small engined variants of the Mk1. All are welcome. Give them the enthusiasm to maintain and improve their cars
The main thing is to have fun and get to know each other within your region.

Your regional host will only be too pleased to hear if you have an idea for a meet venue or theme
We personally would prefer meet quality over quantity if it?s interesting and a pleasure to attend you will go back time and time again if it?s the same time same wet pub car park every month   folk soon get cheesed off and will only attend every now and then.
Try to make meets a family event if planned for a weekend as many of our members have young children so going to the pub every time may not go down to well, try other places like parks, beaches, and cafe?s.

Its always wise to do your homework if you are planning a ride out or cruise,  just to make sure you all know where you are going.
If you are in a convoy make sure if you get spilt up the lead car finds somewhere safe to stop and wait for the others to catch up, there is nothing worse than being tail end Charley coming to a round about and wondering where everyone's gone? :dontknow:
So get meeting, Have fun and do it safely

Cheers,
The Mk1 Golf Owners Club
