Front seats

I have a set of leather seat covers that need restoring, and I have to find a pair of seat bases that will fit - my question is whether there is any difference between the shapes of Golf seats, whether later Mk 1 or Mk 2, so would the leather covers fit any of those Golf seats (Mk1 or 2). 

The mk1 bases various over the year, with the later cabriolets, mk2/3 golfs having similar metal structure setups.

you can see design on seats - you can then look up mk2 with recaros as well.

I've rebuilt a few mk1 cab seats and recaros and I've found that later seats are similar but the meta structures are different = different foam required and then covers.

I did find out that mk1 late cabs 92/93 did have recaro seats the same as mk2 recaro seats and same in mk3 golfs too - again you need to check the base codes.

any late mk1 cabriolet seats will work or mk2 golf 87-88. Have you ever restored seats before? You know that even if foam is good you put a thin layer of new foam over original seats to help fill the shape out and this helps when it comes to leather covers. There is loads about this on youtube.

Yes there is foam for repairing seats and foam for smoothing and fill out.

This is what I've used - US specs, might be different named in UK, but

Smooth covering: (Pink in color) Fabric Backed 1/2" Sew Foam 58"
Fix seats foam: (white in color) High Density Polyurethane Foam (Extra firm)

It took me ages to figure out the above as people don't like to share this information. Youtuber don't tell you this either…
