The newest newbie
I think I'm officially now the newest newbie.
Have had a 86 mk1 gti cab for a year now and after getting fed up with extortionate garage prices, I'm now on a mission to maintain the car myself. At the moment I'm just doing bits and pieces to it - trying to get rid of rust, changing filters and plugs with the help of a couple of trusty Haynes manuals.
I'll be the first to admit I'm not too knowledgable about Mk1s so can anyone let me know the following-
Whats the difference between a sportsline, rivage and standard golf?
Why have some mk1s got the wider rear lights and others not? Is it to do with the age of the car?
Any replies would be much appreciated because I can then pester you with other questions I might have.
Thanks

My golf has big front and rear plastic bumpers and low side sills. I presume these were after market additions by one of the previous 13 owners. Is it worth finding original bumpers to restore it to its old condition or keep it as it is?
If I should keep them, how would I get rid of small dents in the bumpers where the paint and plastic has small cracks?
Thanks again

hi and welcome.
Many of the cabriolets came with big bumpers and side pieces. Post a pic up and I'm sure someone can identify if they are factory ones or not.
The sportline and rivage are special edition cabs - not sure of specific differences.

Due to a combination of my stupidity and my company's archaic computers, I can't upload any pictures of my cab yet.
Cheers
