Mk1 Golf cabriolet 1.8 G60

Hello,

I'm hoping someone cn help, my dad has just bought a house in france.  The bloke who used to live there left his car with the house as he couldn't sell it.

From what I can gather its a 1991 Mk1 Golf GTI 1.8 G60 cabbie.  Ive tried looking on the net but can find no info on this model at all.  I believe it's a German import as only a few were made when VW started to race the G60's.  If anyone could shed any light on this little best can you please let me know,

Thanks

Chris.

Welcome to the site. You've definitely come to the right place with a question like that however I've never heard of a factory G60 Cabriolet before, only DIY and specialist conversions. Does the car have a log book or any original factory documentation? If not then a call to VW with the chassis number might help.

Not a bad car to have thrown in with the house. The people who sold us ours left some crappy curtains and a duff fridge freezer

Yeah I'm guessing it must be very rare.  All documents seem to point to the car being like that from the factory.  Its definately the first G60 Cabriolet Ive heard of.

Only asking as dad is wanting to bring it back to the UK and flog it I think, although I might be interested in getting it off him.  Ive got a Mk3 cabriolet at the moment but Im going to have to get rid as we have just had a baby and need a bigger car aswell.  Ill see if I can get some pics and Ill post them up on here to see if that helps.  Ill also phone VW up with the chasis number as suggested.

Thanks

Chris.

I've never heard of one either. If it is a genuine example of a factory G60 cabriolet it will be extremely rare. Sounds intriguing!

Not impossible, as the G60 engine was available from about 1988-1989.

Pics essential!!!!!

Cheers,

Drew.

Just a quick update, all original documents and manuals are with the car.  All say its a G60 golf cabbie etc.  There are only single headlights on front grille.  It has anti-roll bars on suspension, heated recaro seats and front electric windows.  The only modifications it appears to have from original is lowered suspension and alloys wheels as this is documented.  Apparently in Germany things like that must be fully documented on the log book.  He is going to send me some pictures either tonight or at the weekend so as soon as I get them Ill make them available.

Cheers.

Oh and he was told by the previous owner that it was built in the Passat factory, Germany.
