Aspiring Mk1 Owner...

Morning all. I'm Caspar, 26 from S.London/Surrey. First let me admit I'm an imposter rather than a Mk1 owner, but grab a cup of tea, make yourself comfortable and I'll tell you all about it…

Current car is a 2008 Leon, and before that my 1st car was an Mk3 Golf. First called Jurgen in honour of his roots, he became ironically nicknamed 'The Beast' as it was a 1.4 with a hole in the exhaust I couldn't afford to fix for months! The Beast was my pride and joy for years (happy days!) before the engine spluttered then caught fire in the fast lane of the A3 (sad days!). Did own a Saxo between the 2 but we're all allowed one mistake, surely.

Anyways, for years I've dreamed of getting a Clipper, and was gutted when best mate with the same aspirations beat me to it last year. Now I've just decided to embrace it and buy one anyway, but just make sure mine's better than his!

Imminent house move to further out of London means me and the other half intend to become a 2 car household, so now looks like the time for the dream to finally come to fruition!

Will be looking for a dark, pref blue late 1990- 1.8 Clipper some time between the new year and spring. So feel free to let me know if anyone's likely to be selling one around that time. Am after something with minimal or no mods and VGC outside at least.

Otherwise any buying tips are more than welcome, or trader recommendatons etc. Otherwise will be longingly scouring the classifieds in the coming months. Lastly would be grateful for any observations on whether you get major seasonal variations on the price of Clippers, i.e. price shooting up just before summer, and if so very rough proportions. Cheers all.

Hello and welcome to the club :D . Good choice of car, best place
to find a decent enthusiast owned car is here on the site, cars for
sale section. Its more than likely belonged to someone who knows
a bit about them and what to look out for etc, also check out the
buyers guide, and get yourself familiar with the common problems.

Prices do vary over the course of the year and are cheaper in
Nov /Dec/Jan /Feb (from what I have noticed anyway) and can
drop  a few hundred off the price they will have in mid summer.

Have a read up on the model you are looking for, and read the guides
and you cant go too far wrong, and ask away if you have any questions.

Best of luck and keep us posted!
