Another GLI - oddball parts reqeust and cabrio roof advice...

Post

Hi guys, first post. Just obtained an 82 GLI 1.6 Cabrio 'doer-upper' which my mate is currently working on for me to get up to MoT standard. It's my impression that these cars seem to be worth more in parts than they are whole, some silly bits seem very pricey but servicing is cheap as chips.

Anyhow, the car comes fitted with coilovers which I would like to take off and put back to standard or slightly lowered. Does anyone out there have a good set of standard or slightly-lowered springs and dampers for sale?

Next question, has anyone out there got any left hand drive parts left over from converting a continental car to RHD?

Thirdly, can anyone recommend a good cabriolet roof repairer around Coventry, Leicester Brum area who would be willing to work with supplied parts. The car came with a new outer and I've just got a fresh headliner as well. Looked at the job on Youtube and it seems doable but I suspect you get better at it the more you practice.

I’m over in Derby and do hoods.
You say you have a fresh headliner I’m assuming that’s to be fitted also or is that already done?
I’d also check the rear window frame for rot and I’d say you’d probably need the interliner and padding doing as well.
Give me a call on 07973537991
Cheers

Thanks Chortle, I'll give you a bell tomorrow

Yes the headliner needs fitting and I also need to replace the insulation. Window frame will be checked tomorrow.

No problem catch you tomorrow.
I’ll be driving between 8:30 and 10:30 so after 10:30 is good.
Or ping me your number abs I’ll call you as soon as I’m back.
I’m easy either way.
Cheers
