FOR THE RECORD - THIS IS NOT A GTI!
Hello,  I have a 1975 Senegal Red 2Dr Swallowtail with various parts that appear to have been on the car from the factory. The car does not have its original interior or motor/trans.The body panels have their original paint -some is underneath as the top was resprayed (Hood, Roof, & Tailgate were painted black over the original paint).  I have it's US registration back to 1980. I need some help understanding some of the factory M or build codes.  PXL_20210923_225514618._exported_630_1632678400153.jpg PXL_20210927_162035338.jpg PXL_20210923_214353127.jpg PXL_20210923_212916552.jpg PXL_20210923_212351316.jpg PXL_20210923_212413273.jpg PXL_20210923_212330512.jpg PXL_20210923_212336070.jpg

Love a guess the car game and what a great find…

The 91 RON petrol label on the B pillar would suggest it's not a GTi.
The 1.1, 1.3, 1.5 and 1.6 engine would run on 91 RON, the GTi would want 98 RON.

1978 Mk1 Scirocco GLS 1.6cc FR, Webber carb. Weekend toy.

Thank you, do any pictures exist of the 1975 GTI prototypes that were built which show the B Pillar/Under the hood? Were they changing the stickers on the earliest cars or pulling them off the line and retrofitting the standard cars with GTI parts?

At some point a Motorola Electronic Ignition was installed on the car.

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

"and a single pod non tachometer dash"

The dash, gauge cluster and column were swapped out at some point. The car was scavenged a bit at some point as they took the original dash, gauges, interior and engine/trans.

Sounds like its been molested over the years.

If you have the original VIN write to VW and get the 'birth certificate' with the spec it left the factory with

It definitely had been stripped of a lot of good parts. I appreciate the recommendation. I reached out earlier today and ordered a birth certificate from the heritage site. Thank you.

1975 Senegal Red Swallow Tail Questions

Ok - I received the certificate back from Germany. Here it is! It is a Senegal Red car. I'd like to better understand what code 29, Black and White fabric seat material looks like. Also option code D16 or 16-D was not identified. Does anyone on this forum have an idea of what that code may denote? Thank you.

Could you do me a favor and snap a photo under your dash showing the ducting from the fire wall to the dashboard vent?

Actually if anyone could snap a pic of a 74,75, or 76 Air duct that would be good,.As far as I know they are the only years with the hole under the hood into the Firewall or more specifically the space where the Windshield wipers motor is.
